Need Help!

Recommended Posts

Ok so in about three weeks I will be sleeved. I am freaking out. Not sure what type of Protein I should buy. I do not like any sweets or chocolatie drinks. I seen some people mentioning Unjury chicken and other whey protein products. I just don't know how to go about in deciding which is the best for me. Also, can someone tell me if the picture people of chicken broth is good for me? Is organic. Please help! Thank you all!

Take a pic of the nutrition label that's the only way to really tell :)

When I was post-op I loved Better than Bullion chicken and beef flavors. They're kind of midway between bullion cubes, which tend to be really salty and artificial tasting, and broth, which never had enough flavor for me. About the worst thing in it is sodium, but the taste was so good!

Hi Perez! The Low Sodium broth is what you want. Pacific is nice because it is organic, but if you want you can use Swanson low sodium chicken broth for much less money. I bought unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein and returned 3 unopened containers to them for a refund because it has a lot of sodium in it. I also bought the chocolate flavor and just didn't like and they let me return the unopened containers as well. The unflavored Unjury Protein is good if you have to have it. I don'[t like the Protein powder much, but is much better than buying Protein shakes. They are gross. I tried several and even the ones the doctor's office gave me as samples were sickening. I like the unflavored the best. I am one of those people that can taste the difference without being told if something has a sugar substitute in it. I have never been able to drink sugar free sodas or drinks for that reason and that is the most challenging problem I have. I drink Water all day and soy Silk Milk, but I don't like it too much either because I can taste "soy" and after a while in cream Soups, become sick of the Soup because of the aftertaste. I found Pacific brand Red Pepper and Tomato Soup to be a life saver. Found it cheaper at a Bi-Mart store in Oregon. Just under $3 for 32 oz carton. They have other flavors, but this is my favorite. Just know that if you buy Unjury, it took me over 1 1/2 weeks to get it, but they also have an easy product return policy, but you pay to ship back. I was pleased with them. Order the unflavored to try. There are 17 or 19 scoops in each container and the cost is under $20 per container. Note: Milk may not sit well on your stomach after surgery. That is why I went to Soy Silk Milk. I bought some 1% milk and am trying it out now, 4 weeks after surgery. Still hurts a little drinking it straight, but good in my Soups and no tummy ache. :)

Good luck. I just started on Soft Foods this week!!!! Yay... Was on liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 4 weeks after. I had Gastric Sleeve as outpatient day surgery, stayed in the area for 2 days then home and I did really well. My surgery was on 12/3/12. Contact me if you have any questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
