A Word On Gas

Recommended Posts

I've read this somewhere here before and it was written very well, but it was kinda buried in a thread so I do want to repeat it. My physician, and the other person who posted this had said their nurse told them. Gas X will not eliminate gas pain you are having after surgery. It is strictly not possible. The gas you are feeling is the pain of having the air put into your body for the surgery. The only way to eliminate the air is to move around and get it absorbed in to the tissue....which apparently happens faster if you are up moving about. Just thought I'd share because I do hear so much about taking the Gas X after surgery...it ain't cheap and apparently your wasting your money.

Grace you absolutely right. My Dr told me that there was nothing they could do for the pain from the injected gas and as you were told I was too....move around. Just sit and be in pain. Move and it gets absorbed.

But in defense of those who talk about Gasx and the like. A lot of Banded people have an increas in "Natural Gas" and it may start right at the time of surgery and thus the confusion.

Remember when you are eating properly Having gas is natural...Its part of the digestive system.

I love my band and all that has come along with it

Just a thought for those about to have surgery. My dr is a stickler for being up as soon as absolutely possible after surgery. As a matter of fact they sat me up in a chair in the recovery room (my room wasnt ready) about 45 minutes after I woke up. They took me to a remote area of the recovery room and I would stand up and take a few steps from that chair about every 30 minutes. When I got to the floor I walked up and down the hall about every hour. I never had the shoulder gas pain at all.

It isn't easy, but its better than the pain my husband had after his gallbladder surgery.

So walk as much as you possibly stand.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
