I have my psych eval tomorrow afternoon. Can anyone share their experience with their psych eval? What should I expect? What kind of questions do they ask? The doctor mentioned that I'll have to do some sort of questionnaire. Did any of you have to do that? What was on it? I am nervous about it. I always get nervous when there is the possibility of failing something (even though I probably have nothing to worry about).

Thanks for your help!!!

Michelle

Mine consisted of an interview with the dr and then a bunch of scantron type tests. The questions are SO repetitive, they're really just looking to see if you answer consistantly. One of the questions was are you actually reading these questions LOL

Just answer consistantly!

I filled out a nine page questionnaire they mailed to me, att eh apt we just basically talked about some of the questions. She was most interested in my current support system and my past history of weight loss attempts. I think they are just looking to make sure there are no tendencies to bulimia, anorexia etc. I think they also want to make sure we are realistic about what the surgery can and cannot do. I am sure you will be fine!

Mine was Super easy! I took my Dh for support and it helped. I filled out a 1 page questioner

It asked bout depression and like things. But focused and my current diet, family habits, and history. If hx of abuse etc. lastly asked how ready I am for this surgery! Conversation style.

You will do well!

Good luck!

Like everyone else said.. a lot of questions on a scan-tron. she asked me questions like, how has weight hindered my life and what will losing weight do for me. it is basically a test to see if you are ready for the life style change, really hindered by being overweight -- but not to depressed about it, if that makes sense. i got the impression that if i were to sad about being overweight that it wasn't a good look.. hope this makes sense

Again,

I was super nervous too. But taking my Dh helped. He however got coffee and came back when I was done. If have some one you can take them. But it's basically to see if you are Ready for the Surgery.

You got this.

My psych eval was done by a Counselor that came into the doctors office and met with me. She mainly asked a lot of questions about my life, relationships, abuse, physical or mental, childhood or adult, diets, why you want to have surgery, etc. Just making sure you are there for the right reasons and what type of support you have at home, following the surgery. That your support will help and not sabotage you. Don't stress about it if you are having surgery to better your life and get healthier.

I had a really smooth psych eval. She just asked me questions regarding my childhood, emotional state, expectations from surgery, any mental illnesses. It was a breeze. There is no need to overthink it. As long as u have reasonable expectations as far as what the surgery can do for u...it will be fine

I had to do a 300 question thing on the computer. The questions were silly too like "do you think aliens are out to get you", "do you think all men cheat on thier wives", "do you think the government is conspiring against you?". Then just a 30 minute sit down with the Psych and he just asked about my childhood, was I abused, did I ever have anorexia, etc...They obviously want to make sure you are mentally capable of handing a big life change.

Thanks everyone! I passed the evaluation. She had me fill out 6 different questionnaires (probably around 200 questions). We talked about my eating behaviors, eating history, family history, anxiety issues (since I do have anxiety), why I want the surgery, expectations, the surgery itself, etc... Then I had to complete another 65 question survey that basically repeated a series of questions but worded in a different way. My usual pattern is to over think things. I went in there with an open mind and everything worked out. Whew! That is a huge relief!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
