Do you ever feel hungry? I feel empty at times and I must be getting it confused with actual hunger pangs that are caused by hormones.

Yes, I feel hungry quite often. I felt it at the hospital after surgery! But I try to drink Water first cuz sometimes my brain mistakes thirst for hunger.

I still feel hunger just like any normal person, I just can't eat as much. I also have learned that hunger can be controlled much easier if I don't eat any high glycemic carbs like potatoes, bread, Pasta or donuts (donuts....yum). Those foods actually increase cravings and hunger, while dense Protein helps decrease the hunger.

I was constantly hungry immediately after surgery. My tummy felt like it growled at me all the time. Water and Protein didn't satisfy me. Once I was able to eat real food, the hunger went away. I am satisfied after eating.

My doc said I would no longer feel hunger. He said that my body will feel weak if I'm not getting enough to eat but the "hunger" I'm feeling is just in my head

I'm having the same problem! I'm 8 weeks post-op and ever since I went back to work last week (between 6 weeks of sick leave and vacation time), I have found that my "stomach" actually growls when I'm sitting at my desk working. It makes me so mad because when I was home and relaxed, I didn't have this problem at all. I've been trying to make sure I'm getting as much Protein in as possible during the work day, even supplimenting with a Protein Shake either mid-morning or mid-afternoon whenever I feel those "hunger pangs" coming on. It does seem to help, but it's so frustrating.

I was sleeved in June 2010 - you described it perfectly, empty. That's my new 'hunger'. I say "I'm hungry" but it isn't anything like others feel. Empty, the new norm. I had bloodwork done recently, all the yearly stuff, so I had to fast. Waiting until 10:30 AM was no problem. I could have waited until noon. I love this! I hope it lasts forever.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
