All of my December sleevers...

What great success stories! I love to focus on the positive, because it is soooo easy to get negative when we are in a stall. I like to remind myself that it took me years to gain the weight and a 40 pound loss in 6 weeks is an amazing accomplishment!

I'm finally at the point where it doesn't hurt to exercise. I started the journey at 355 and had surgery on Dec 3 and I weighed in at 311 2 weeks ago. For those of us that have had many years with weightloss, it's exciting to see results, be able to exercise without pain, fit into smaller clothes and all the other exciting realizations. We are finding our voices, strength, power and determination. ......let's ROAR with success December group!!

Lots of amazing progress here. I have lost 35 since surgery Dec. 19th and 53 since Sept. Would love to be up there with some of you with the big numbers but our bodies are all different and our starting size is a factor. I am still working on adjusting my food intake, my dietician has me on 3-- 1/4 cup meals of Protein food a day and that is it. I was averaging 300 cal. and 30-40 grams of protein and have been having slow weight loss but most people are eating more than that when I polled on here and with other friends so I am trying to add more calories and protein. It is not easy because I sitll get really full very fast and have trouble getting any Protein Drinks down for some reason. So my plan to add a Protein Drink has not really happened regularly, I still haven't branched out to protein Snacks, kind of afraid to have snacks added in like I am going to go too far. My exercise is pretty good, I keep adding in more walking and more strenuous hills and hiking as well. Usually every day. I am considering joining a health club to get more types of exercise in.

I was at a Bariatric meeting and a surgeon other than my own was speaking, he was saying that getting into ketosis, eating mainly protein and fat, little or no carbs could help get the fat moving, has anyone done this?

Surgeons WANT us to get into ketosis? :-(

Ketosis is when your body is actually burning fat. That is a good thing, at least in my opinion (I totally believe in the Atkins way of life). You're probably thinking of ketoacidosis--- which is extremely dangerous for diabetics. There are some that believe long term ketosis may not be healthy but there are plenty of studies that show that is is perfectly healthy. Just depends on what side you end up on in the debate.

Yes this surgeon was referring to ketosis not ketoacidosis, you are right. Getting your body to burn fat rather than taking the easy way out burning carbs which it goes for first if they are there to burn.

I think I remember you posted about this before right? WOW.... I am still shocked that your doc has you on 300 calories a day...I think I would lose my mind. How long are you on that extreme calorie restriction?

the dietician is calling it the soft food stage- been on since 5 weeks post op and is supposed to go until 12 weeks after surgery. she is not really specifying calorie restriction per se but how much calories can you get in 1/4 cup meals of Protein? 3 times a day? all the programs are so different here but most seem to be at least 600 cal a day. I am not really feeling like I need more food volume, I just don't want to lose what muscles I do have and have slow weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
