does water make you feel yucky?

Recommended Posts

When I drink Water it makes me feel queesy...I don't know why..makes my tummy feels weird..I haven't been getting my fluids in ..because of it. The only drink I desire now is hot tea with cream. I didn't even like tea before. I can like feel water in my stomach..I don't know..I would have lost double if I would be able to drink my water!!

Confused

This is very common - a lot of us have trouble with plain Water for awhile after surgery. You may have an easier time with water if you add a little Crystal Light or Mio or other flavoring to it - it changes the consistency of the water just a tiny bit and makes it go down easier. I hated artificial sweeteners, but I found just adding a little bit was enough to help.

I had Water aversion twice during early recovery. I adjusted the Water temp and that helped the first time along with sips. The second time that didn't work and I added Sobe Lifewater for about a month! I'm 5 months post op and drinking room temp plain water again.

I also got queasy with Water for like 2 months after surgery. All I could drink was iced tea, green for Decaf but I was ok with black too. It also helped me if the water was ice cold, but for some I've heard the exact opposite, that only room temperature would do. I would love to know the science behind this! Seems very unnatural.

I am the same way tea goes down better than water. It seems like warm stuff goes better than cold!

Room temp or warm before cold for a few months, at least. Plain Water bothered me but flavor or fruit made it bearable. I drank very diluted tea (I'd make one cup of tea into a liter of tea-water) and had much better luck with that in the beginning.

You have to keep trying to find a solution. Dehydration is no fun and causes a host of unpleasant side effects.

Good luck,

I had a problem with Water too. It took about a month and a half after surgery to be able to drink it again without being nauseous. I did find that herbal tea worked well instead. I liked the celestial seasons cranberry apple flavor. Either warm or cold it went down with no problem.

I just discovered yesterday that if I add just a little apple juice to the Water it doesn't cause me any problems. I was in the same boat as you.

I also add just a splash of apple juice or my fave is diet cranberry grape. I am almost 4 months out and every once in a while try Water plain to see if I tolerate it yet but no such luck. I can do crystal light too but abot abhalf packet per bottle and all of my drinks have to be ice cold

I had no problem with Water until I got a stomach virus. Now I've been making Decaf tea with a little Splenda... Seems to go down much smoother.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
