Hi everyone! I'm new! I was banded back in 09 and saw no results more like issues with it as if I was rejecting it! Anyway I noticed that my vomiting had been increasing and finally went to doc and said I want it out! I don't care how we get it approved but I can't live like this anymore. Idk how we did it but it got approved and the conversion to sleeve! I was so happy! Anyway I went in for surgery 12/27 and it turns out I had hernia along with sever scar tissue due to the band! I knew there was a reason for my throwing up (I kept getting told let's fill, let's not fill for a while nothing worked). I think I am healing nicely.. The only issue is I can't even get 12 oz of liquids in at the current time! How am I greeting 40oz of Protein in?! Also that stuff does not leave a great after taste! Any suggestions?

Happy New Year!

good for you on getting the band.. just take is slow and sip all day long.. thats the key.. make sure you dont drink too fast it will make you sick.. im 10 days out and on the next phase.. I have a hard time with the Protein now too.. before the surgery I didnt.. but since then.. I cant stomach them.. it does get better.. remember to take your Vitamins too.. find out from your doc what the least amt of protein you can have.. that might be a lower number. good luck in your new journey.

My doctor told me to not try more than 4 ounces an hour after being sleeved last week, so 12 ounces at once seems like a really large amount...try backing that down a lot and see what happens.

Oh I see- that really is a small amount of volume to be able to tolerate - with that small volume my biggest concern would be the risk of dehydration - hope u can tolerate bigger volume soon, for your own health...:)

I struggled at first to get my 64 ounces in. It was even harder when I was drinking a Protein shake, but I just kept at it. In the beginning, it would take me about an hour or more to drink an 11 ounce Protein Drink (15 grams of protein), but it was 11 ounces of my 64 ounces. You just have to keep at it and constantly drink.

I probably didn't get all of Water and Protein in completely until my third or fourth week post-op, but it got better all the time.

One thing that helped me was to flavor my Water. I really liked the different Sobe water flavors. You can get 0 calorie versions.

I also tried drinking my water at different temperatures.

Another thing I did was to add a shot glass of diet cranberry juice to my water. It gave me enough flavor to be able to drink the water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
