Sensitive stomach pre-sleeve

Recommended Posts

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am beginning to get worried about how my stomach is going to react. I know that the first few weeks wil be rough regardless. There are some foods I just don't tolerate we'll now: steak, certain pizza sauces and Tomato sauces. Sometimes I seem to have diarrhea randomly and suddenly. How have those of you who have had a sensitive stomach pre-op reacted post-op?

I have IBS, diagnosed prior to surgery. It was so bad that my stomach hurt after EVERYTHING I ate. I couldn't even remember what it felt like to not have my stomach bother me. Thus far--7.5 weeks post op--my stomach hasn't been an issue! It's felt so much better, actually! I'm hopeful that my IBS will be less severe/disappear going forward.

Dairy is the only thing that seems to bother me now and gives me diarrhea. It sounds weird, but I'm somewhat grateful. When I'm having trouble going to the bathroom, I have a milk based (lactose free) Protein shake. Works every time. LOL

I had a very sensitive stomach preop. If I ate anything my stomach did not like it was going to be coming back up. This is why I chose the sleeve over the lap-band, I didn't want complications from the band slipping. I was sleeved 12/12/12 and have not been nauseous at all, even right after the surgery. I don't know how long this nausea free stage will last as I am still on liquids, but I'll take it.

I had a very sensitive system prior to surgery as well. The only post op concern has been the development of lactose intolerance, which, with hindsight, is what I think was causing most of my issues prior to surgery as well. I think I was already heading that way and that much of the discomfort and nausea I felt before just turned into a downright intolerance post op. It sounds odd and it was very frustrating at first living without dairy, but it's probably changed my life 100x for the better.

I think that it's important to take a PPI post op to control acid, and to be very mindful of how anything we eat affects our systems. I only eat real foods and have cut out any low-fat, artificial fake foods that used to be in my diet. If I'm only eating a few bites, I want them to be quality taste and nutrition. My body is much happier for it.

Do keep in mind that the first few weeks post op are spent on a liquid diet and drinking a lot of Protein shakes. Many people get a bit concerned that they're having a reaction or intolerance but liquids in = liquids out.

But if you find any accompanying digestive discomfort do check for lactose intolerance first. I was miserable until I figured it out!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
