I simply could not eat enough to get the recommended amount of Protein in per day for several months post-op. My plan had you try to eat as much Protein as you could during the day and then have a Protein shake at night to get the rest in.

If I don't get in my Protein 60+ grams per day I stall or lose very little. I find it hard to get in my Protein through food and sometimes I just don't feel like cooking and need something simple like a protein shake. Drinking Protein shakes also helps keep my cravings under control. I also tend to make better food choices when I get in all my protein. I drink a shake for Breakfast and lunch and that gives me 74g of protein. I don't have any cravings for junk after that and tend to continue eating protein for the rest of the day. I will have a least one Protein Shake per day for the rest of my life

ETA: I also breastfeed and exercise regularly so my protein demands are pretty high.

I use the Isopure dutch chocolate powder which has 50g of Protein for 1 serving (2 scoops). With my shakes I mix them with milk and milk has about 12grams of Protein. For one shake I only use 1 scoop (25g protein) and mix it with 1 cup of milk, which adds up to 37g of protein total. I wish I would of done this soon after surgery because I wasn't meeting my protein goals and I think that's why I didn't lose so much in the beginning. Isopure is also low in calories and carbs (2 scoops equals 200 cals and 1 or 2 carbs).

ETA: Instead of drinking all 50g at once I just break it up into 2 servings. I mix it with 1% milk and it's a good way to get my Calcium.

my nutritionalist says our bodies will only absorb 25 grams of Protein MAX .so , using more than 25 grams at one time is a waste of money .

My Protein Drink has 42 grams of protein... They were recommended by my dietician ... I'm so use to them now, I can't go without.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
