Low blood pressure scare

Recommended Posts

I was having trouble waking up this morning. Having dreams I couldn't move. When I finally woke up I was really weak. Took my blood pressure and it was 87/43. The more I moved around the higher it went. Was back to normal in a few minutes. Not on pain meds. Guess I will be stopping my bp meds soon. Hate that because they are also a Migraine preventative. Anyone else have this happen? Scary

Low blood pressure can be a signal of dehydration...along with the weak feeling... not to be gross but what's your pee like?

Ha that is weird!! I'm stumped. I guess just keep an eye on it thoughout the day and check it each morning to see how it compares. Hopefully it straightens itself out.

I would definitely let your dr know. Especially if on bp meds. You probably need to dosage adjusted. 43 is pretty low. I think they day anything under 90/60 needs immediate attention. Good luck!

I would let your physician know first and foremost about the low bp and meds!

But dehydration is probably an issue. Also try to increase your fluids and maybe try Gatorade the low cal one if on the plan. I have Migraines too. But I found that dehydration and possibly low potassium contributed to my headaches. Your physician need to adjust your meds together with you.

Hope you feel better!

Good luck!

You will also find after sleeve you do not need bp medicine any longer. Some of it is genetics, some of it is hypertension from stress, some of it is the extra weight on your heart function and some of it is just food. My blood pressure was like 154 over 95 when I started bp medicine. Once my nutrition changed and my weight started dropping I was off bp meds by 3 rd week and down to 118 / 78 by 2 months.

Good nutrition as in low sugar and low fat goes a long ways to eliminating health issues that prescription meds only treat (not cure). This includes many mental behaviors as well that are treated with SSRIs.

Don't jump on me as this is only my opinion and I have also read it a few places from natural approaches to good health. I encourage everyone to aim for good health and well being before asking for prescriptions because the side effects from a lot of prescriptions are worse then the symptoms being treated. Prescriptions are also a multi multi multi billion dollar industry. Follow the money and you will find the truth behind many things...

Now if you have a really severe illness (cancer, ms, etc) or pain (the sleeve surgery!!), by all means, treat it with prescriptions.

What do others think?

I hate taking medication, and that was one of the reasons I wanted the sleeve. I always get side effects. I was already working with my doctors to wean off it. I look forward to only taking Vitamins soon!!!

Track your BP every day, if your systolic(the higher number) is under 90 and/or your diastolic(the lower number) is below 60, let your primary know. Also, give them your readings.

Very true, but the holistic medicine route is also a MULTI BILLION dollar industry. There are many people who's lived have been saved because of medications researched and created by big pharm. don't smite them all. Now of course, if whatever is wrong is the result of bad diet, lack of exercise etc then there is no need for meds, start eating right and get off the couch.

Don't however stop taking the meds and take a whole bunch of 'natural' products that are not proven to do a damn thing and still don't change your diet or exercise.

There is a reason medicines are so expensive. That's because they are do highly regulated by the FDA. The reason Vitamins and other 'holistic medicines' are not so expensive is because there is no regulation on them at all.

Agree. I was just trying to stick my toe into the big pharms versus natural approach without stirring up too many emotions :) I know it is a hot topic.

My only point is that good nutrition and exercise will take your health a long ways and if you need prescriptions, by all means, get them. I would not want someone to jeopardize their health by not getting the prescriptions they need (myself included).

This is actually a concern of mine so I only take my BP pill one time a day instead of 3 times .. I know this may not be good but I am feeling ok with once a day, if I get a headache or see the stars then I take another.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
