I have not found a good support group in 6 months, my family is very supportive but those who know what it is like.

I am very young to have had the gastric sleeve surgery, and it has been nearly 7 months since surgery.

I feel alone at my college, I blend in, but that I know of, no one at my school knows what it is like. My friends try to be there, but my body can only intake some food and I find it difficult that I have to go to the bathroom constantly after eating the wrong food.

I just want to know that there are people who know and can help. I do not want to pity myself, but it is a struggle feeling alone and not getting support or having a support group.

Thank you

Hello reach out to me anytime. I also feel alone. At work they know I was sleeved but...I dont think they get it. I wish there was a support group near me but there isnt. Hang in there my hubby tries to support me he knows my struggle with PCOS but as someone who has never gained a pound since high school I think it is hard for him to understand. Best of luck.

I am only at the beginning of this process. I found this forum literally the weekend before I was sleeved. Sometimes the info people give on here is conflicting. A few times in the past two weeks, I have seen people BANNED from the forum for being unkind/antagonistic, but on the whole, I think this is a great place to share emotions and struggles. Maybe you could start another thread and put the words "Any sleevers who are college students?" in the title. You might get a few who are closer to you in age, but as the previous person said, she works in an office and it's the same for her as for you.

As for me, I will be 2-weeks post op tomorrow. My sister is here helping me with my kids, since we aren't supposed to lift anything heavy. My sister is a nurse. Yesterday we made plans to visit a cousin....just the three of us (no kids, no spouses) and my sister was annoyed with me because I didn't want to dine out. I am still on liquids. I just don't feel like sitting in a restaurant right now while everyone is eating whatever they want and I am sipping Water or the ilk. You would think my sister would understand, but she doesn't. So, you are right, we all need someplace to go to talk to people who are like us. Even the people who love us most, if they haven't done this surgery, they may not "get it."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
