Jbrewer2933 15 Posted December 30, 2012 What is this "dumping" that I read people talk about?? What foods cause it?? Thx I'm new to this Dumping is a term used for gastric bypass patients at least that is what my nutritionist told me. It's when gastric bypass patients eat to much sugar and their intestine cannot tolerate it so they end up sick, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea all that.
brittlogan 3 Posted December 30, 2012 Oh so dumping can't happen to us that had a sleeve? It's just for the bypass surgery? I haven't experienced any bad feeling after eating yet.. Just sometimes I think my bite is to big and I can feel it slowly go in to my stomach but the discomfort goes away quickly

Just sometimes I think my bite is to big and I can feel it slowly go in to my stomach but the discomfort goes away quickly I mean dumping could really happen to anyone if their stomach dumps to much sugar into their bowel to quickly, but is most common with gastric bypass since their stomach is closer to the bowel after surgery. People have stated they had dumping syndrome on here but it is less likely with sleeved patients.
brittlogan 3 Posted December 30, 2012 Gotcha... Thx for clarifying.. I hope I don't ever experience it
gingerRN 81 Posted December 30, 2012 Dumping is usually with sugar. Both times I was eating soft foods out with family and I do not know what was in the veggies or beans.. But boy did they make me quite ill!!! Eating only food I cook for a while.
Radwilk 4 Posted December 31, 2012 I was sleeved on the 10th and at this moment I am miserable! Having made it through Christmas on soft foods without cheating it is now my birthday today. Currently I'm on the couch while my family enjoys a huge roast, scalloped potatoes, green Beans, bread and now cheesecake. I had nothing but crystal light. I can't get in all of my daily Protein bc I hate the taste of every shake I have tried since surgery. I am dehydrated and tired. That pretty much sums up my pity party! On the other hand I am down over 25 lbs since surgery day and nearly to a size 12 from 16. If my belly button wasn't still a little tender I'd be fine in a 12 My incisions look good and I have very little discomfort.
gingerRN 81 Posted December 31, 2012 Congrats on the weight loss! Size 12?? Wow wish I could just get out of plus sizes!!! It's hard to drink. I know I'm dehydrated too. Hang in there, you are doing great! Oh and happy birthday; )

gingerRN 81 Posted December 31, 2012 I agree feeling food in your stomach isn't fun, nor is all the awful sounds my stomach makes!!! Wondering what my students who have me after lunch are going to say when my stomach starts guggling!!

ivonneh 25 Posted December 31, 2012 I'm trying to start a new thread.. But I can't! Don't know how so new to this.. I have a question.. I'm not a alcoholic I'm a social drinker.. How long before I can have a pina Coloda or a shot of jolly rancher lol I think it's way too soon and I am not even sure if we are allowed to have alcohol since it can dehydrate you. Plus those drinks have way too many calories. Just think if a drink is worth after all you have done to get your surgery. At least in my own opinion, I wouldn't like to go back to an OR. I already let my doctor cut me once and I want it to work.
dtay13 4 Posted December 31, 2012 I was sleeved 12/10 in New Jersey. By 5 days after I felt like myself, going to the gym to walk almost every day. I am down 29 pounds, but haven't lost any weight at all in the last 5-6 days, which is a bit frustrating. I am already on soft foods and have gone out to eat a few times due to the holidays, I have found ways to get around most food events, but I definitely miss the social aspect of food.< /p> Its getting easier, but still have trouble getting all of my Protein in...I was sick of shakes so I have tried Isopure drinks (like gatorade) and they are nasty! So I am doing my best to get my Protein through my food.
