My name is Lisa and I live in Deep East Texas. I have been researching the lapband for over a year now. We do not have insurance so I will be self pay. The doctor I have picked is Dr. Ganta in Austin. He has been so great and answers all his email personally and quickly. Still saving money to have the procedure, but I'm looking at having it done within the next 4 months. He has a special for cash pay people of $13,500 and that includes the first year of follow-ups.

General stuff about me I guess is I'm 5'6" and weigh 270 lbs. I need to lose 125 lbs and have been on almost every single diet you can name. I'm also Hypothyroid, and had thyroid cancer in 1996. My hips give me hell because of all the extra weight I am carrying. High cholesterol is what my doc keeps on me about. I've started noticing changes in my blood pressure as well. I'm presently a stay at home mom to 4 great kids (15, 13, 12 & 2 1/2). I love to read in my spare time, but find that few and far between.

I'm really looking forward to meeting new friends and getting support on this long journey.

Peace,

Lisa

I too paid for the band (just this month - October 12th) and it has been a great journey so far. I have lost 22 pounds just since my surgery and have gained so much since...willpower, the ability to live again and not be dependent on food, and it is amazing how different people treat you as you lose weight (sad, but true).

Good luck my friend ~ God Bless you!!!

You are doing fantastic! I can't wait until I get to experience the feeling for myself of having control over my situation!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
