If this isn't a place of kindred spirits where I can let off a little steam about being sick of eating gross mushy foods, then someone please point me to that place. I thought that was here among people who get it, because it's certainly not among my friends who thought I could just puree a chicken thigh, or that I would just be eating salad right out of surgery.

There is so much tough love here and that's awesome for people who respond to it. Not everyone does. A little corrective action is necessary. I see so much berating and brow beating though. *shrug * I guess if that's your way that's what the ignore list is for.

When you're on week three of chicken broth and nasty Protein you earn the right to say you're sick of eating that.

You're entirely correct. Unfortunately, that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

I agree and understand - I have been obese since childhood and have failed more diets then most people have even heard of! I am very emphatetic about how hard it is . I think it is great that people come on here and have tantrums and jump up and down over their frustrations. WE understand what maybe others don't....

What i DON'T understand is how people can go into this surgery knowing so little and always looking to game it. In my mind, that is different then someone who slips up because it really is hard.

I am not judging people, we do all have our own road to travel, but I failed once at weight losss surgery (lapband) and I DON'T intend to fail again. I try to share my experiences so hopefully others can learn from my mistakes. Maybe they need to make their own mistakes... but I am quite familiar with the road to failure and for those that care to pay attention might benefit from that. I am not the only one, there are tons of people on this site who know what it takes to make it work. Always looking for ways to just do what you want to anyway isn't one of them.... and I am not interested in being an enabler to those that hope they can avoid changing their habits and lifestyle while becoming a swimsuit model...lol

I try to be positive and supportive but i dont feel the need to lie.

I've only been here for a couple of weeks but I am stunned by the number of posts where people ask if it's ok to ignore their post surgical dietary instructions because they really want to eat something they know they shouldn't.

Is it really worth the chance of having complications to satisfy a craving? Do you want to be cut open again to deal with a leak' date=' infection or some other complication? Are people really lacking that much basic common sense? It honestly boggles my mind to read so many posts like that.[/quote']

I think maybe we know we shouldn't have those things that we crave so badly. Its more of a curious inquisition to see if we are alone in these feelings. And 9 times out of ten there are masses that feel the same way we do. No need for mind boggling! ! :-D

When I was feeling weak and dying for a fresh-baked Xmas cookie, I came here BEFORE I caved for people who understood me to "talk me down" and remind me how strong I am and why I did this.

It worked. No cookie for me and I got SUPPORT bc I didn't do something stupid to derail my progress so far. Like a virtual AA sponsor!

That is an interesting parallel. Most of us are food addicts. I guess if you were an alcoholic and went to your AA meeting and asked if it would be ok to have a few beers on Valentine's day or shared that you threw back a fifth of vodka, you would get some different responses. Hugs from some maybe? I don't know. Others who were disappointed in you? Some who were angry? Some who said they understood but tomorrow is a new day?

Of course not really quite the same thing since we can't stop eating food.

I just thought it was an interesting way to consider another angle.

Common sense and intelligence are two different things. You can still be a rocket scientist and lack common sense. Or you could be Sarah Palin and lack both...

You know, I have liked you in other posts but this one just takes the cake. I seriously think you are awesome. What you have to offer here is way more than what the rest of us do. I don't know if you have your full story of the leak somewhere but I think you should just detail it all out and copy and paste it when you see these posts. It certainly rattled my cage and I have seen posts from others who mentioned thinking twice before making a dumb decision. Thanks again Iggychic!!!

Yes, but this thread has nothing to do with being strict or not. It's about people coming on here asking for other people to assuage their guilt for eating something that is less than ideal.

And for us so called "sleeve nazis", the sleeve is not just about weight loss, it's also about getting healthy. During the honeymoon phase most sleevers can eat cupcakes every meal and still lose weight, but they aren't doing their health any favors.

Perhaps it was your last two sentences that didn't sit right with people. An addict of any kind knows what they are doing is harmful but they do it anyway. Maybe take that into consideration before you question someone's intelligence.

@Nicolanz-

Sorry but your post confused me? My last two sentences?

I have struggled and hated myself & my failures for 20+ years! This journey is giving me hope, reminding me if I love myself I can do anything- losing weight included. I'm sorry if that didn't sit well with someone- I just don't see why. I have not been on a blog site before so maybe I'm way way confused over way way more than I should be. I'm so sorry if I upset anyone. Not my intention- nor to insult someone's intelligence. I simply don't understand why it is so hard to follow directions from MY doc I know are for my own good- it is my own lack of intelligence that is disturbing to me at times!

Sent from my iPhone using VST

Oh ok I get it- you were responding to the OP--- wow! Feel free to insult my intelligence now!!

I'm learning this thing a little at a time!????????????????❤

True..people do just want someone to co-sign some behavior...but no one should be unkind

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
