Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site (and blogging). I'm 23 years old from the Bronx, NY, 220lbs, 5'3", BMI 39.

I started my journey this Thursday 12/27/12 with my first consultation @ Dr. Scott Belsley's office. I was very please with how they treated me. According to my insurance (Healthfirst) all i need is 2 consecutive monthly visits to my PCP. Besides that I will need a Psych eval, pre op testing and that's pretty much it. I've been extremely anxious about the process because i'm afraid to get denied by my insurance. I have also never had any type of surgery and I dont do well with pain. I feel like i'm going to get cold feet at the last minute and i'm really hoping i dont because i'm ready for my life to change. ANOTHER BIG FEAR OF MINE IS Hair loss. I heard that i affects you 4-7 months post op. i'm so not looking forward to that.

Feedback on your experiences with insurance process, post-op, fears, hair loss, post op dieting would be highly appreciated..

Having just got out of surgery I can tell you that the pain you feel is very minimal. It is gonna hurt, but that's what the pain meds are for. I can tell you that yes I hurt only two days post op, but it's like a bad bellyache. I thought the flu was worse.

Welcome!!!

My wife and I both went through WLS. The pain was less than expected, the benefits more than expected. Her hair got thin for a while but got better. Mine got a bit thin but I'm 64 and could be hereditary.

I don't feel like I'm dieting. It's just a new eating pattern which I am at peace with. The new slim body is so worth not chomping endlessly at meal time.

Welcome!

You are not alone with your concerns.

This is a good topic!

I had a knee procedure before and was out the entire time lol.

Woke up and they gave me more meds.

Now I'm pre op too.

As far as hair loss, I feel you. I once cut my hair short and was upset over it. My

"Co workers said to me don't stress it's just hair."

I took me to face this problem more than once to feel like my co worker.

So, I understand how you feel too.

So, I Started Biotin, Silica and a good Multivitamin for my hair issue.

I can't wait for my sleeve.

You gonna do fine!

Be encourage

We are here for support.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
