Terrible time to to diet!

Recommended Posts

Christmas has been such a hard time to follow the pre-op diet! I just gave it up for a week because I had my step-kids here for a week and they love my cooking. So it was time for me to cook their favorites--homemade mac'n cheese, spaghetti etc. Then taking them to dinner, making breakfast... it was too hard. They leave tomorrow, but my son is coming today. He is 20 and bringing two friends with him because they are hitting the New Years parties and concerts in Nashville. I have to say that since I haven't been following a diet this week it has made me realize how badly I do eat and how crappy I feel and over tired I am. I felt MUCH better on low-carbs! So--despite new company coming for another week, I am jumping back on the horse. I can't stand feeling this run-down and I can absolutely say it is the foods I've been eating. Hello protein!

Me too! Well I took a few days off for Christmas. Really didn't feel like I went overboard but the grazing really did me in. I'm a baker and spent several days before Christmas making cheesecakes, cakes and Yule logs for people who ordered, plus making my own family's meals and Desserts for Christmas. Those bites really snuck up on me. I gained 2 lbs. two days ago I went back on plan and I already feel so much better. Am I sorry for what I did at Christmas? No I gave myself permission to not worry about it and I guess I am dealing with the consequences. Life goes on. I'm also planning on going out to dinner with my hubby the night before I start my liquid diet (2 days before surgery) because I know it's going to be a long time before we will go out again. May not be 'correct' of me but hey I will deal with any fallout from that night too. Don't beat yourself up for your failures, Celebrate your successes. So much better for your soul.

I hate feeling this way about food! It seems crazy to me to view a bowl of Pasta the same way a crack addict views his next fix. No wonder I suck at dieting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
