Recommended Posts

I am so excited.

Plus I introduced real foods, albiet about a week early. But I feel great!

I'm up to 50 oz of water/day. I have not had any pain post op. NOW, I need to start moving and excercise.

Smart move.....cuz your doctor was probably kidding about the risks of introducing "real foods" prior to his schedule right?

I've never heard of anyone needing only 50oz of Fluid a day. My Dr says 64oz minimum. And since you're on solids so early I would really think you'd need more to help your system and stomach cope with dense Protein.

Be careful with solids...not worth the leak risk. You should baby your sleeve, let it heal. You've got the rest of your life to enjoy food.

I really don't think the sarcastic remark was necessary or very respectful. For what it's worth, my doctor approved me for solids 8 days post op. I ate tuna pretty much exclusively. It is important to follow doctors plan but her post didn't say she went AMA. I just really feel like we should all be respectful of one another and ask clarifying questions if necessary.

Actually she clearly said she introduced foods a week early. This is not a good choice for a healing stomach. My comments are hopefully intended to make her think about this poor choice so that she can continue to lose, and not have to deal with weight gain via TPN (the food of choice for leak victims).

I broke my leg last week...I can't see the pins doc says are holding the bones together and I'm feeling nifty, so I'm going to enter the pole vaulting contest tomorrow....cuz I'm probably fine right?????? Same thing!

More sarcasm? I thought we were supposed to support one another. And my doctor said no solids until week 3,then during my follow up he released me early. So the way I always worded it was that I got to start solids a week early.

Actually that was an example of someone choosing to ignore their doctor's advice with a clear picture (one should get one) of what could happen if they did so.

People can't see the raw shredded stomach stapled together so they break the rules. If a shred of chicken were to get caught in one of those sutures it could cause infection which leads to leaks. Leaks are life threatening...I know, I had one. She wrote that she advanced. If that was not the case and it was her doctor's choice, great! But post it that way so that people understand that you aren't making a bone headed move, you're just advancing because your DOCTOR told you to. People can only read black and white so to not say so encourages people to make bad decisions. This is never a good thing, would you not agree?

I think the message of concern is really good. I think it's a good piece of criticism, I just think it could have been delivered a little more constructively, that's all. That was really my only point, and I hope that she is following her doc's orders and that he approved advancing early. Overall I think we were at the same place.

I'm glad to hear that Sarah. I will admit to a high level of frustration in seeing how many people take risks with their lives for a piece of chicken, popcorn, whatever it is, but advancing their doctor's diets. It frustrates me because I don't want anyone to suffer the financial or physical pain associated with making bad choices. It's not a cheat when it's right after surgery...it's Russian roulette, which sounds sexier to play than it probably really is.

Best of luck in your recovery! I'm glad it was easy.

Congrats!! I just had a little victory myself I dropped down into the 250's today. That's 18 lbs lost in my first week from surgery, 29 including my pre-op diet!! This is awesome!

I hope I can get to where you are with the 50oz of Water, but right now I have to choose Protein or water. I find myself doing Protein One day and fluids the next. I'm sure it will get easier to get in what I need, I keep having to remind myself I'm only ONE week out.

Still...18 is not bad for ONE week :) :) :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
