up on a snowshoe hike

Recommended Posts

3 miles into a 6 mile snowshoe hike with about 2000 foot gain in 5 feet of powder. Cruising along like I am hiking, taking breaks on switchbacks. What a cardio work out! Love it! It is a good break from running on treadmill. I have been out for about an 1.5 hour so making good progress. For those that know Leavenworth wa I am on a short vacation at lake wenatchee near Stevens pass.

Hey, you're in my neck of the woods! Man, I've always wanted to try snowshoeing. Are you with an organized group, or just out on your own? I could never figure out how you know where the heck the trail is in the snow!

I went by myself on this short trip. It was actually an old logging road up a mountain that I hike often during the summer so very familiar with it. This is my first time using snow shoes. It took about 5 minutes to get used to and then it felt just like walking. I am so glad that losing the weight has made this type of experience possible. Coming back down was so much fun, it felt like gliding across the snow.

It was awesome. I especially enjoyed the serenity and peace found in the winter wonderland. The snow absorbed all sounds. I am going out again today for another snowshoe hike and am going to try and double the distance. Ski poles really help, especially when going down steep parts of the trail or navigating around and over fallen trees.

Here I am sitting in my snow recliner at my destination point for today looking out on Lake Wenatchee. I came from around the state park down at the end of the lake and am up on Pole Ridge. Nason Ridge is straight across, about a 20 mile hike from one end to the other ( all day). I did the beginning 3 miles of that 2 days ago (see post above). I am not sure if the picture attached as the app said it crashed each time trying to attach it to this post from camera. About 6 miles from state park to Pole Ridge here I am at. Partly sunny today with 7 feet snow on ground and a couple feet in the trees.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
