Not losing weight

I think you answered your own question. "My doc said its normal but it seems strange to me." Stop stressing, if your doc says its normal, continue to follow his instructions. If after 1-2 months and no weigh loss, consult with him and your nutritionist.

I lost 16 my first month' date=' and then about 10 every month after that until about 7 months out (check my signature - I'm kind of a stickler when it comes to tracking all the info, lol). You are doing absolutely FINE :) It *will* come off. It *has* too. :)[/quote']

I have posted on other threads, but I am 11 days out and I am only 4 lbs down. Unlike some, I was never on a clear liquid diet post surgery. They even brought me glucerna to drink while I was still in the hospital! I typically drink one shake made of nonfat greek yogurt, skim milk and Protein power for Breakfast. I have cream/blended Soup with milk and some cottage cheese. My calorie intake is probably way higher than most, but I was told to track Protein and stay hydrated. So, I feel a little frustrated because I am only doing what I was told.

I guess I liked your post because even if you lost more weight than me in a month (double my 4 to 8 versus your 16), at least it got you on the right path and you were/have been consistent.

That is strange! I'm not allowed fat free cottage cheese until week 5....my doc sells his own shakes and food but I found shakes @ Walmart that have 23g of protein and 120 calories! It's $8 for 4. Maybe you can try those shakes and skip the yogurt

8:20pm? And you've only consumes 200 calories? Be careful, you could be sending your body into starvation mode. Your body will also start taking away from your muscle. Your organs, esp your heart, is a muscle and need nutrients to survive. Do you have a nutritionist? You really should be consuming 500-800 calories, 60-100 Protein. Carbs vary depending on how your body uses them. I need to keep mine at 20. Some people can have up to 80 or so. Play around with that, but don't play around w starving yourself for very long. Use this time to learn how to eat and learn forever healthy eating habits. :-)

I wasn't given a calorie guideline by my NUT. I was given a very explicit list of the Proteins I could buy. I was told not to buy anything that wasn't on the list. Boost Glucose Control (ready to drink), EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control (ready to drink), Slimfast Low Carb (ready to drink), Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Isolate (powder) are the products listed from Walmart. To be honest, I don't shop at Walmart, because I would rather support my local grocery store chains, but I do understand why some people only shop there.

Getting back to the calorie thing. I haven't been tracking that, but I will start tomorrow. I really love Greek yogurt and I ate it pre-surgery, so it actually gives me comfort to eat it now. I don't enjoy the powdered Proteins, but I am using them to boost the shakes.

I will say one thing about being allowed blended/pureed Soups...I am not constipated. So, maybe that justifies a little carb/fiber.

And even though I wasn't given a calorie target by my NUT, I agree based on previous diets that you need to be careful about too few calories as explained by Doxieville. To be honest, I am surprised that we can exist on 500-800 calories without harming our muscles, but since this seems to be a standard range given by other people on this site, I have to assume that it is still considered "safe." It is certainly why we are supposed to eat most of our calories in Protein.< /p>

Actually, after 3 months my NUT upped my Calories to 1000. At 4 months I'm supposed to get 1200 calories and 50-70 fat grams. The idea, from what i understand, is that after 3 months we start being more active and also our sleeves are now healed and can handle more food.

I feel a little confused. You are two weeks out - most of us were told to make hydration and recovery a priority the first month. I think setting an expectation that you will lose 30-40# in a month is a formula for disappointment. I lost I think 28# the first month and I feel I have been wildly successful. My BMI also exceeded 50.... if you are smaller, older or just different, you may not lose 28# either. I know there are some men who have posted HUGE losses the first few months, but for women, 40# in a month would be too good to be true.

I was still sipping trying to get my Protein down two weeks out. I wasn't counting calories and i sure wasn't expecting those kind of losses. All this starvation talk - while that may be true over the long run; well again, those early weeks are about getting adequate Fluid and Protein for healing and not too worried about starvation mode yet.

You are right about the starvation mode affecting the long run. I skipped a step. The early weeks it is all about adequate fluids to stay hydrated and protein for healing. Neither of which I think can be obtained at 200 calories. I'm a bit confused too..... Thanks for correcting me though!

I went through that 3 weeks stall as well but it seems I hit another stall. I was sleeved on 11/15/12 I weighed in at 311 and I got down to 288 but it seems that I gain 4lbs then lose those same 4lbs. I asked my doctor about it but he said it happens and I will get passed it but boy is it discouraging.

I drink Pure Protein and it has 120 calories. I drink 2 a day. One can of Soup mixed with skim milk for protein. I drink around 50 oz of fluids a day. I just dropped 4 more pounds. I'm 28 and 5'9" I now weigh 246. My resting metabolism is around 1850

How do you calculate your resting metabolism? I am pretty sure mine is "slow" because my basal temp is high 95s-low 96s. It's a thyroid thing, but thyroid issues are not considered co- morbities.

My doctor calculated my resting metabolic rate a few days b4 my surgery, u sit there relaxed and breathe into a tube and a machine records something that tells me how many many calories I burn a day. For better details ck it out on the Internet. About 5 yrs ago I paid to have this done at our local hospital also so it has been around for a while. One more thing, in one year my doc will redo this test to see how my body is burning calories, the more muscle I have the better it will be. Hope this helps

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
