Hey all! I had my surgery on 11/14/12 and hit my first stall on 12/5/12. Very disheartening. That stall broke, but I've had another one this past week. Do any of you have any advice about stalls? Any blogs or articles that I can read? I lost 25 pounds prior to surgery and have last 21 since surgery. I'm thrilled with my weight loss, but those same old defeated thoughts that I have had with every diet that I've ever been on are never far from my consciousness. The only difference this time is that I can't give up because my stomach won't let me!! Thanks in advance for any insights or help.

Stalled for a month so far but im losing inches.... cant hit the 250's closest I came was 260.0 on the scale I screamed haha good news is didnt gain anything over Christmas still at 260.* surgery 8/31/12 lost total of 89 lbs since starting my journey. 50lbs since surgery

I had surgery the same day as you and I've had a few stalls. One lasted several weeks and I even gained 2lbs right after Christmas. Stalls are just part of this whole thing. You're doing great! Don't have any expert advice but just sending hugs to a fellow Nov 14th sleever :)

That was my date too. I've had a couple of weeks where nothing much happens. I just get off the scale and look at my face and smile because I *just* have one chin now :) I try not to let the lack of scale movement bother me.

Great job on your weight loss. My advice about stalls is to lose the term from your vocabulary! The term is an obstacle to your lifestyle change. I know that it is difficult to purge yourself of thoughts of being on a diet. These thoughts and feelings will pass. The most important aspect of this entire experience is to exercise, exercise, exercise. Do SOMETHING everyday that gets your heart rate up and gets your body moving. One last thing that has worked for me... take your scale outside in the back yard; get a baseball bat; use the baseball bat to destroy your scale! good luck and YOU WILL DO IT!

I have found that when Ian not losing lbs I am losing inches. Have gone from a jean size of 22/24 to 16/18 depending on the brand. Have never felt better in my life. When I do feel down I take a picture of myself and compare to the pics taken shortly before surgery in Sept and that fixes my blues!!!!!

I had my surgery Oct 24 2012 and I am now having a bad stall. It has been almost 21/2 weeks and no loss. I was 248 and now 214 and can't get past that. I have a hard time eating and a real hard time drinking. I hope this isn't where it stops.

I think that 34 pounds in two months is an incredible amount of weight loss!! I don't know about others here, but I personally have never been able to come close to that number with any other diet I've ever heard of !

If your caloric intake is steady and your ratio of protein/carbs is stable, don't worry about it, you'll start losing again. Hang in there :)

Thanks for all of your positive thoughts. I guess for me, it's hard to read forums and blogs where people seem to be losing massive amounts of weight and here I am struggling with a couple of stalls and even a few weight gains. I had a doctor tell me a couple of years ago that she had never had a patient whose body seemed to hold on to fat like mine does. In the past, I've been totally compliant with dieting and exercise and I struggled to lose the little bit of weight that I did lose. I'm finding that true again, even with my surgery.

I'm praying that exercise will get the weight loss really going. I haven't been able to do much because I got a staph infection a week after surgery and my doctor doesn't want me doing much until mid to late January. I'm going to join the gym that my husband goes to and also got some kettlebells and a DVD for strength training.

Thanks again. It helps to know that there are others who totally understand what this feels like.

A large number of people lose weight quickly, achieving goal in nine months or so. An even larger number of us slowly plod our way there in fits and starts.

I lost, on average, just over six pounds a month. It took me 17 months to lose 107 pounds and get to goal. I am no less a success story simply because it took me longer to get to goal. In fact, I might argue that the longer journey gave me more time to work on overcoming my food issues and to build good habits. I maintained nearly effortlessly until this pregnancy and have no doubt I will return to my nice, comfy goal weight window once this baby is born.

You'll do this. The goal here isn't a time goal. It's a number goal. It doesn't matter when you reach it, provided you get as close as you can. Some people have to readjust their goals upward or downward because they find their body has a different idea in mind. I did - I never did have an easy time maintaining 135 pounds. It was a struggle every day, but if I just let that number sit at 137 instead? No issues, no gains, no counting calories and what the heck, I'm still a size small and 6 at that weight, right? Sometimes we have to let go of the expectations and just let it happen.

Focus less on how quickly you reach your goal and more on building the habits you need to stay there once you achieve it.

I am new to this forum. It would be nice to talk to someone about my surgery. I am 15 wks out & super disappointed. I lost 30# the first week & 2# a month since. I had better losses before surgery. Any suggestions?

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
