How long on Full Liquids? My Dr. say 5 weeks before puree's.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I am 9 days post-op and just had my drain pulled out today.. Yippee, it caused a lot of pain and discomfort, on both sides of my stomach.

My question is I know that I should be on full liquids for a while, but my doc states 5 weeks as he is VERY conservative. When are most of you able to move to purees? I am not wanting to eat food but 5 more weeks of this seems crazy.

thanks.

My Dr. only has me on full liquids for 2 weeks. I am SOO ready for puree's! I'm not sure I could handle 5 weeks of liquid diet.< /p>

I was on clears for the 2 days in the hospital and told I could go on full liquids when I got home. Then 2 weeks later I had my first check up and was cleared for purees. Im 3 weeks out now and on soft foods. I have no problems or pain.

I probably have already screwed up. I have taken some Soup and blended it up then ran it through a sive, so it is a liquid.. At least I hope that is considered a liquid. I dont think it is different then Protein Shakes, or pudding consistency.

My doc has me on liquids for 3 weeks. I'm 2 weeks out and an SOOOO over liquids. I've been blending and straining Soups as well, just to have a little diversity.

I was on 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks purees, 2 weeks mushies, I get real food on New Years day. Every Dr. does things differently. 5 weeks of liquids is alot, but not outside what a lot of Drs. do.

I was 2 weeks clear, I'm in 2 weeks full now, blended and stained cream Soups are allowed with my Dr in the full liquid stage. Then 3 weeks soft, then start to slowly introduce a regular bariatric diet. I'd say follow drs orders

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
