Hi everyone. My name is Marcy and I have to tell you how excited I am. I started researching WLS almost 4 years ago, even had a consult with a surgeon for a LapBand. But soon found out that my insurance plan would only cover RNY. No way was I having RNY! Instead I waited patiently every year for open enrollment time, hoping that this would be the year they would finally add LapBand to the list of options.

Fast foward to this year. I finally resigned myself to having RNY. I was feeling desperate, like I could not wait another year, and after this long the chances of my insurance company adding LapBand was pretty much nil.

So I found the surgeon I wanted to do my RNY, attended a seminar last week, and started planning.

Just for kicks and giggles, I called my insurance company on Thursday since it's open enrollment time and guess what?!!?

They are adding LapBand to the plan for 2007!! :clap2: I was so happy when they told me, I started crying. I don't think I realized how concerned I was about having RNY. I felt such relief!

So anyway...now I'm trying to decide if I want to stay with the original surgeon I had chosen for RNY or someone else.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this forum. I needed a place where I could learn about LapBand and not be confronted constantly with the question, "why not go ahead with RNY?! :)

Looking forward to getting to know y'all better!

Congrats on your patience to wait for the LapBand.

You will be so happy with your decision!!!!

Lap Band was the only choice for me -and after having it for 4 months now, I am extremely happy with it!

Continue learning - ask your questions this is the best place to get all the info you need - good and bad. Keep in mind, not everyone experiences the same thing. As for which doctor - pick the one you feel most comfortable with, the one that will have a good after care for your fills etc. And hopefully one that is close to you.

Again, good luck in your search -

Tracy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
