CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted December 30, 2012 This is a short term situation - it gets alot easier. But, this is also the time to really get the weight off. Honestly, does sound like head hunger to me.... At a year out and I just LOVE that I dont' really care about food anymore. It is like the monkey off my back, the dragon is slayed... all that! I had the band done and it was in for 4 years. I did lose 60 pounds but in the end there was dialation and a hernia. I converted all at once which I am glad because I did not want o go through a bunch of surgeries and time off from work. I am feeling sad and frustrated now though. I feel like I can't eat anything. I was sleeved on Nov 30 and it is very difficult to feel satisfied before I am stuffed with that really full feeling. I feel that my stomach is full and I cannot eat anything else, but I don't know if it is in my head or what is going on. I feel like I have made a huge mistake because I can not even eat a full small meal. I have to get the Protein in of which you can only eat very little, and never get to the salade or vegtables. Also, I feel like I am behind getting Fluid in all the time. You can't drink much at a time and then I have to stop and wait. Will it get better in time or is this something I am going to have to live with? Help let me know if you have been through this.
thankful16 4 Posted December 30, 2012 Thank you so much! I started at 210 and pre band surgery, for sleeve I started at 162. I am now at 144 and only have about 15 pounds to go at 5'2". Thank you so much for your help.
Mrsdw206 40 Posted December 31, 2012 I had the band in 2004 and lost over 100lbs. My band slipped in 2012 and I gained 80 back in a year. I was sleeved on 11/14 in a 1 step procedure and have only lost 10lbs. I feel like I waisted my money and I'm really regretting my decision. I'm always hungry but following the diet at 100%. I just do t get it....it's very depressing...thankful that my band was taken out because I had so many issues with it but feeling terrible about spending so much money with no results. I am hungry, too. All the time. I'm even hungry after eating. The sensation NEVER goes away. I just keep on holding onto hope that it'll get better with time. And for reference, I had about 6 months with the band where I was NEVER hungry, so I know what it feels like to be not hungry. I sure would like that sensation back! YURiiMii 6 Posted December 31, 2012 I had my lap band for 2 years before I had mine removed when I went to emergency because I couldn't get anything down. 5 months later I was sleeved and I still had complications in my surgery because right were my band was it was still swollen. freespirit63 112 Posted January 1, 2013 That really sucks. This is why I want a defill and removal them sleeve before I have complucations
bigjoe 2 Posted January 1, 2013 I had my band removed and sleeved on 12/19. I was unfilled completely in October due to dilation. No real complications and I'm hungry as hell at times. But after about 4/5 bites I'm full.
freespirit63 112 Posted January 1, 2013 how do you know you have dialation?
neekoal 37 Posted January 1, 2013 I had a band in 3/12, port flips, slips you name it for complications. I could have won an award for slime queen, I was always hungry but unable to eat. I saw another doc on an emergency basis in Nov and he got approval for removal and switch to sleeve. We spent a lot of time discussing my situation and basically it boils down to this....some people's bodies just reject the mechanical device. Mine hated it and wanted it out. I was nervous about the sleeve but I went ahead with it. He did both on 12/13/12 (removal of band and sleeve) and I feel like my old self! (minus 30 lbs and all the food consumption). Good luck on your path whichever way you go! 1 bolivister reacted to this
bigjoe 2 Posted January 1, 2013 The doctor did an exam where I drank a solution and did an X-ray. When he saw my chest on the screen both he & I saw that I had stretched my esophagas.
SylviaMom 83 Posted January 1, 2013 Band for 10 years. I was originally hoping for a one step but had a very bad erosion and needed to wait for 6 months. Doctor wanted to do a RNY because he believed it would minimize the odds for a leak. Glad to report that I did get the sleeve and very happy about it. 2 weeks out today. Down 11pounds and though it maybe mostly Water, I am excited for the loss. I anticipate a slower loss and am good with it. More time for the skin to catch up. Good luck in your journey! 1 neekoal reacted to this
popsicle_20721 27 Posted January 2, 2013 Wow just like my experienc Yes. I also have some of the hunger feelings too. It's a lot less than what I had with band, but they are there. This obviously is just a prelimina report because I was just banded on 12/26, so I'm just 7 days post surgery. I'm actually still not eating the full amount of "full liquids" that my doc has me on currently, so the hungry feeling may be a sign of my recovery progress, more than anything else. When I drink Protein Drinks with 1% lactaose free milk (8 oz) - I definitely feel full and uncomfortable (somebody called it "fat full"). liquids that are more clear, fill me up briefly, but I'm ready for more after 20-30 minutes - this goes on all day long. Slow, but progress none the less.

Will be interested in hearing your progress and other comments related to this post. I'm 7 days post revision to sleeve, so I'm still on full liquids. I know that I'm behind in getting all my fluids in, especially Water, which I find really difficult; I can almost drink anything but water is hard to get in more than a few sips at a time - can't understand this. I seem to need something to eat (drink rather) pretty much throughout the day/night just to keep the rumbling away. Warm liquids seem to sooth the rumbling, but I have to change what I drink frequently because I get bored easy and I'm searching through a variety of acceptable liquids (full) in order to feel "satisfied" like I'm consuming things that I "like." Cream Soups, broth, protein drinks, sf pudding, popsicles, Decaf tea and even Starbucks (yes - be careful, but decaf option and a tall, which last two days now). I have begun to notice (I think, cause so new) that liquids with high sugar content seem to make my stomach feel "funny," so even though the doc says no anyway, my tummy seems to be saying "don't mess around" and I'm doing my best to listen to my doc, but the way my tummy feels is even more convincing.
