I get hungry! I usually eat something small every two or three hours. The first month or two I didn't but I get very hungry at times...I just eat something small and I am satisfied.

The hunger felt during the first 8 weeks or so is not the same as after at all. Totally different. At least for me.

Also 7 weeks out and still get hungry ... not like before as it is so easily satisfied again. I also feel like my current portion sizes are smaller than they should be. I was told by 3 months I should be eating between 1/2-3/4 cup. There is no way I can do that currently eating dense Protein. Very occasionally I will measure lunch and eat it over the afternoon as I find reduces snacking.

I am 6 months out and I don't have any hunger at all! Thank God this surgery worked and I don't sit around thinking about food all day. Now my new problem is that I can't remember to eat, I can go most of the day without eating one thing (I have done that a couple of days, but not on purpose) eating is more of a chore now then a pleasure.

I am only a few weeks out, so things might change, but I don't feel hungry at all. The only hunger I suffer from is head-hunger, which I can usually recognize and handle.

If I get "hungry" (and that's a big if) it's usually something that I register mentally but can completely ignore. I do make an effort to eat every 2-3 hours, something with good Protein like meat or yogurt or cottage cheese. Sometimes what I really am is thirsty and some times I just want to eat for the sake of eating, which is when I either get something very low calorie (I'm a sucker for canned greens with pepper sauce) or find something to distract myself.

Okay, I know lots of stuff gets lost in translation across the Pacific but WTF is 'canned greens with pepper sauce'?? :) :) I've googled it. Didn't help.

Greens is kind of a generic term for things like collard greens, mustard greens, spinach, etc. You can buy them pre cooked (they're really mushy) in cans. Pepper sauce is basically any sort of hot pepper, though commercially it's usually jalapeno in vinegar that's been bottled and left to sit so you've got this very mildly hot vinegar to put on it. It's primarily a southern US thing.

LOL

Yes, a mostly Southern thing, I believe. We love hot sauce and hot vinegar in Louisiana to be sure!

As for hunger, days 5-12 were hell for me! After that, I had basically no appetite at all until literally a few days ago (I was 10 weeks out last Monday).

Now I can recognize my hunger for what it is...my body truly needs food. I'm still learning the difference between "wanting to eat" vs. true hunger. That's a real mind f*#k!!

I'm very proud of myself for consistently making good food choices since surgery and doing everything I can to replace my bad habits with good ones. It's HARD some days, I won't kid you, but I've had to take responsibility for my addiction and my choices.

Nothing tastes as good as being around to see my children grow up. :D

Also, not getting enough Water in really does make me feel "hungry". It's tricky getting it in with the 30 minute rules, but makes a HUGE difference for me.

Here's the truth for me. After surgery I wasn't hungry the first day. Second day I was but it was very painstakingly hard to force myself to eat. I had a hard time eating for a week and half. Finally forced myself to get down more fluids and more of start o wad suppose to. I've been experimenting with soft pureed foods. I've vomited from not pacing my bites. I find I have mental hunger, but I can separate physical hunger and mental. I absolutely cannot over eat or I vomit. So I'm very careful to recognize which hunger I'm trying to feed. So even now I can go without eating, but its very important to keep schedule with eating, because you need to boost your metabolism. Good luck!

I am 16 months out. I don't get hungry, but I do (infrequently) get head hunger. I get the urge to eat something crunchy/salty/snacky. This is something I had before surgery as well, and it has nothing to do with actually being hungry. I tend to get this way in the evening.

I have found that having healthy/smart choices helps me avoid eating something stupid.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
