sm8705 41 Posted December 26, 2012 I had my surgery on 12/10 and about 4 maybe 5 days ago my incisions were very itchy, but like a tattoo I did not scratch them at all! Lol.. I emailed this picture to my doctor and he told me to apply hydrocortisone cream on them and if it didn't get better then to go in to see him... I've been using the cream for 3 days now. Did anyone else have this problem? They're closed, not really painful anymore and there's no discharge from any of them.
ShrinkyDinkMe22 376 Posted December 26, 2012 I'm not a Dr but those look infected. I would definitely get in to see him right away. Feel better!
Johnboy996 11 Posted December 26, 2012 Mine look the same way. Doc told me it's the blood around the incisions healing it. Mine get bright red after a hot shower. If in question and to ease your mind, go see the doctor.
johnsdeb 4 Posted December 26, 2012 Hi- yes I had the same issue with one of my incisions. I used hydrocortisone cream and it eventually went away. Mine was a reaction to the steri- strips. You should watch them and if they get bigger or have a discharge at all call and go see your doctor.
Alabamasleever 58 Posted December 26, 2012 Did you have clear tape around then at first? It's a clear occlusive dressing called tegaderm, which is fairly common to be allergic to and can take a while to beak out because the glue is left on there. With the redness being perfectly round, it looks like a reaction to the tegaderm if they used that on them, they did mine. I agree, hydrocortisone and if no better or if other symptoms exist (fever), def see doctor.
johnsdeb 4 Posted December 26, 2012 Hi- no I just had the steri-strips. It looks like a glue reaction. Your incisions look good to me.

firebelle10 80 Posted December 26, 2012 I had the same thing!!! My surgeon said its an allergic reaction to the tegaderm tape. He had me take benedryl for 2 days and apply hydrocortisone cream.cleared up in like 3 days. Good luck!
Yasmine 109 Posted December 26, 2012 I had the same.... Its an allergic reaction to the tape or glue... Talk to your surgeon. My Dr. Had me remove the tape and use a Cortisione Cream to help the itchy feeling. It got better within 3 days.
Yasmine 109 Posted December 26, 2012 Give it time... The itch went away in 3 days... The redness will take longer... As long as there is no discharge or you are not having a fever you should be ok
nanaspez 58 Posted December 26, 2012 Mine looked like that too along with rashes. The doctor told me it was probably a irritation/reaction from the tape. I applied hydrocortisone cream and it helped. Also Vitamin E, I also had lots of itching. I can't say how long it lasted but hang in there it will all subside soon.

txlawyer 11 Posted December 26, 2012 I was sleeved Dec. 3 and I have the exact same issue. I'll try the hydrocortisone.
kczar 166 Posted December 26, 2012 Mine was a reaction to the surgical glue. I went to the surgeon's office just in case and they did put my on anti-biotics to be safe. One trick you might try it marking the outline of the red areas with a pen. If it spreads beyond the circle you made, definitely see the doctor. Mine got better after about 5 days.
