What kind of help do you need after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I live alone, and I'm wondering what kind of help I need to line up for the first two weeks post surgery. Should I have someone stay with me? Is it enough to have someone stop in once/day?

You will be fine by yourself. I live alone also and was very fine on my own. If you have someone stop by that would be nice just incase you do need something.

I agree that you should be fine by yourself but you def want someone to stop by once or twice a day. I've had to go to the store every day since I got home. Also you will be on a lifting/driving restriction so you won't be able to do things like pick up the laundry basket or unload groceries from the car. Little things.

If you are in a LOT of pain you may need someone around at least the first night to help you get in and out of bed, etc.

I would personally recommend having someone stay with you. Not just for the physical stuff like housework etc but it is a very emotional time post op for the first week or two and a friendly face and sympathetic ear was invaluable to me. Everyone is different but just my opinion.

Merry Xmas and wishing you a happy weight loss journey. XXxxx

I think having someone with you for the first few days, at least, is a good idea. You will probably be ok without having someone but it will make things a little easier for coping and adjusting.

I stayed with my aunt the first 2 days out of the hospital...then I came home....I too live alone....

One suggestion I would make is to move items off the floor, because my doctor told me no bending or stooping for 2 weeks, and I tried once and I felt HORRIBLE....so try to move as much as you can off the floor so you dont have to bend or stoop

You will definitely need someone with you at the hospital to help you in and out of bed and to bathroom. I stayed at home by myself while husband was at work and did fine. I went to grocery store alone and asked the bag boy to take them to the car, while I usually do that myself. When I got home I had my boys unload them, so that would be one thing to consider. I did not feel comfortable even lifting a gallon of milk or laundry detergent the first few days. But, other than the lifting, you should be fine. My doctor even encouraged me to do light housework and move as much as possible as soon as you get home.

Since everyone is different, I would have someone stay with you at least for the first couple of days. Better safe than sorry. I was pretty weak and had lots of hormone problems with hot flashes, couldn't eat, so having my husband here with me was good. I also needed him emotionally. Hopefully you won't even need the extra body there and you can spend your time laughing, watching some good movies and great conversations!

I was alone in mexico and traveled alone back to michigan 4 days after surgery. My fiance took the next day off but other than that was alone except during the evening. I was off pain meds two days after surgery and was encouraged to get moving right from the get go. I am pretty independent otherwise though and if I were alone probably would have been fine having someone stop by once a day at least the first day or two home. I also returned to class the day after I returned home. Everyone is so different so it may be a god idea to have a backup plan just in case to uave someone around

I would strongly encourage you to have someone with you at least for the first day. It made it so much easier to have someone there who could help me in and out of the chair and heat up some broth for me. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
