I Had My First Fill And Feeling Very Frustrated

Recommended Posts

:help: I HAD MY FIRST FILL YESTURDAY 3 WEEKS AFTER MY SURGERY. I AM GETTING SO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I AM ON THE Clear Liquids AGAIN AND HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THE STAGES AGAIN. I WANT TO EAT SOLID FOODS, IT HAS BEEN WEEKS. TONIGHT MY MOM HAS INVITED US FOR dinner AND I CANT HAVE ANYTHING. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO EAT AGAIN.

First of all, that is the earliest I've heard of someone getting a fill so soon after surgery. My surgeon wanted us to wait up to 6 weeks that way we were eating solids again after 3rd week and didn't have to go so long on liquids. After my fills and I've had 4 now, rest of that day liquids, next day mushies and third day regular food. All seems so soon to me but all doctors are different. Try drinks with high Protein that helped me more than anything.

Take a deep breath and a step back. Put 4 weeks of your strict diet in perspective. It took how many years to get to your present overweight state? How much longer do you think you'll live?

Time goes by in the blink of an eye; faster the older you get. One day very soon you'll look back at your few weeks of liquids and be glad you followed your doctor's instructions. I know it's terribly frustrating at the moment, but soon . . . very, very soon you'll be eating solids and watching your scale go down.

We all understand your frustration. Keep coming here and venting. And keep up the good work!

It's a fancy medical term for a Tummy Tuck. After you lose your weight, depending on your age and how overweight you were to begin with, you may find yourself the proud owner of a thin body and an apron of loose belly skin.

A plastic surgeon can cut that off and make your belly as flat as a 12 year old child's. It's really neat waking up from that surgery. Especially if you, like me, have been overweight most of your life.

A panniculectomy removes hanging fat and skin, typically after massive weight loss. It may be performed as a single procedure or combined with a tummy-tuck, depending on the patient's condition. Panniculectomy is different from abdominoplasty, in that abdominoplasty tightens the muscle as well as removes excess skin and fat, but a panniculectomy only removes excess skin and fat. A panniculectomy may also be performed with another abdominal surgery, such as a hysterectomy, or repair of the abdominal wall or hernia of the belly button.

I guess that everyone's doctor is different in their recommendations for their patients after a fill. My doctor told me to just do liquids right after the fill. Mushies the 2nd day and by the evening try giving solids a try if everything is going down alright. If not go back to mushies. Actually I have never experienced not being able to eat solids by that time. Whatever way, it's well worth the sacrifices. Even though it can get rough sometimes. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to start from the beginning again? Maybe it was a misunderstanding.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
