Is protein powder mixed with water considered "clear"?

Recommended Posts

A "milkshake" type drink is not a clear liquid, even if you make it with Water. That would be for full liquid phase.

While chocolate nectar would not be okay, something like Crystal Sky nectar would be.

I was allowed Protein shakes as of day 2 after surgery. (Made with milk), with Water in between. Full liquid stage was when I was allowed to add creamed Soups to the diet.

First off, how are you doing on your liquids? Are you getting all the Water you should? If not, don't even touch Protein.

Once you can get 64oz of liquids in a day then you should start adding Protein. But not until.

Remember, protein is important, but dehydration will pit you back in the hospital fast.

And for all technical purposes if you can't see through it, it is not a "clear liquid".

It's sort of a vicious little circle....I'm sick sick sick of broth, tea, Jello, popsicles....which makes it very hard to get them down in the quantities I need to.

I bought a box of every Water flavoring that sounded remotely good then I also got Powerade zero. Variety makes it easier.

ok, just to make things more complicated, My instructions say that on the three days of clears during the PRE-op phase that Protein should NOT be added, but during the "clears" phase post-op, that protein powders CAN be added. So I guess that clears can mean EITHER protein fortified or not.. confusing? you bet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
