Protein Shakes any advice please

Recommended Posts

Have you tried mixing chocolate Protein Powder with sugar free instant pudding mix? Add two scoops of powder to the packet of pudding and mix it up... add 2 and 1/4 cups skim milk. whisk together. Assuming you are using Protein powder with 25 grams of protein and 110 calories... the entire recipe has 69 grams of protein and 513 calories. That would make a half cup serving have 128 calories and 17 grams of protein.

Could I use a differ net form of milk ? I cant do skim milk at all. So far almond milk is the lightest feeling on stomach and it is still almost to heavy for stomach. Next what flavor of pudding ? I havent been able to tolerate protein powder any other way, so I am willing to try anything once

These are two of my favorites

24-32 oz Water

1 ocean spray cran-peach packet

1scoop Nectar® Fuzzy Navel

Or

8oz Naked® Mighty Mango

8oz Water

30g Nutiva "15g" hemp Protein

2tbsp chia seed (optional)

1tsp KyoGreen (optional)

You can also add another 8oz of water to the second one & a cran-peach packet.

So far, best I can tell, you've only had milk based Proteins, which are super high quality. I'd recommend trying another type, like hemp, egg, or even soy. They are not as high quality as whey is but they might be easier on your stomach.

I just ordered the egg Protein Shake sample package by Jay Robb . Do you know if that was a good choice ?

I just started using the ocean spray cran peach tea yesterday and love it mixed with water. Before that I was mostly a propel type of guy. I got tired of crystal light and mio a while ago because of weird artificial aftertaste. Now I am going to branch out and try some other ocean spray flavors.

Go here:

http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-favorite-protein-shake-recipes.html

I use these recipes and these shakes taste so good that I actually look forward to them. During the summer I use them in my soft serve maker for Protein ice cream.

The Protein powder I use is SEI Max Protein. The vanilla and the chocolate is a good base for anything. I use 2% milk. In the mocha ones I use 6 oz. of coffee and 2 oz. of 2% milk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
