Protein Shakes any advice please

Recommended Posts

No matter what type of Protein Shake I try I still get sick at my stomach. I am 11 weeks post op. I have tried them with Water, almond milk, soy milk and skim milk. Any advice ? I eat meat most days only meat or egg. But I am still scared I am not getting enough Protein. I can only eat one small egg or about 2 oz of meat.

I haven't had my surgery yet but I like the tast of Premier Protein shakes. You can get them at costco. They don't taste like chemicals and they are rather thick. My dietician recommended these to me and they are great.

I have found I like the taste of Syntrax Nectar and Unjury the best. That is the two I have been trying to use. After surgery I couldnt use pure Protein anymore. I bought something from GNC that was nasty tasting.

Have you tried mixing chocolate Protein Powder with sugar free instant pudding mix? Add two scoops of powder to the packet of pudding and mix it up... add 2 and 1/4 cups skim milk. whisk together. Assuming you are using Protein powder with 25 grams of protein and 110 calories... the entire recipe has 69 grams of protein and 513 calories. That would make a half cup serving have 128 calories and 17 grams of protein.

Hi, were you not able to tolerate Protein powder after surgery or were you not allowed by your doc?

What's PB2?

It is a powdered high Protein Peanut Butter with 1/3 the fat and calories. I got mine from the hospital where I was sleeved, but I think you could find it online at Amazon, bariatric pantry or other online store fronts that focus on selling to WLS customers. I still have my original container from 6 months ago. It does last a while. I don't use it very often, but when I do it turns a truffle shake into 8 ounces of pure awesomeness. Give it a try!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
