Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 12/17' date=' almost six weeks ago, and one of my incisions won't stop bleeding/pussing. It was cauterized 2 weeks ago but that made it worse. Has anyone had this problem?[/quote']

I haven't. Do you think antibiotics would help...if there's infection?

Hi all!!

I posted this on another forum I am part of, but wanted to post it here as well since this is such a larger audience:

First, let me note that I *DO* understand the importance of eating and all of that and I have not (or do not plan on) stopped eating, this is more of a question/comment focused on the "mental" aspect of things.

Do you ever just feel like eating isn't worth it? As I fix my little mix of food that equals out to 1/4 - 1/3 cup total I do sometimes look at it and think "for this small amount of food, I'd rather just skip this". Or knowing that it's time to eat (my body is saying "feed me") I am like "well, what combination of bite sized morsels can I get excited about tonight?"

Maybe I have made a breakthrough (giggling) - eating used to be something I just couldn't wait to do and now I could really care less. It's become more of inconvenience than an enjoyable experience.

Thoughts??? Again, I'm not going to quit eating or anything like that, just curios if other VSG'ers have experienced the same or similar? If so, did it seem to be a phase or just how it the new lifestyle is?

Hi blewy99

I know it is not much food, but I rather have a few bites than to have to do the liquid diet ever again lol

Yes, blewy, I often feel the same. If I'm cooking for the family, it's okay. But when trying to find something just for me, it just doesn't seem worth the effort for such a small amount, even leftovers ruin before I can way all of it considering my husband and kids usually won't eat 'healthy crap', lol. Sad, but true. For me, I find it easier and less time consuming to just grab a piece of deli meat and cheese.< /p>

Soup is the only thing I can make and share in it. Made some really good crock pot chicken the other day, but even a small amount was painful for me to eat.

You should puree it in a blender. It will be much easier to eat.

I am 12/10 surgery date. I have two incisions that still give me problems. One has a thick scab and the other oozes. They are slowly getting better but still a ways off.

I experienced this the past week. I just didn't have the urge nor want to feed myself or drink. But then this weekend, I went to The Melting Pot, and at first I started to panic because this was my first time really eating out, I thought I was going to cry if my server asked me why I wasn't eating. (Thankfully I gave my leftovers to my father) But the serving sizes were perfect and I was elated and felt so normal, that I could fully enjoy a bit of everything (EVEN DESSERT!) With time, it does get better, or at least, that's what everyone says :]

I'm only (almost) six weeks out, but I have eaten out three times now. Twice I had Soup (1 cup-size, not bowl-size) and once my husband ordered salmon, so I could eat some of it. In the soup scenarios, I did not have anyone question what I was eating. In the salmon scenario, I did have to explain to the server why I wasn't ordering my own meal and why I wasn't drinking anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
