Good morning, everyone. My surgery was late afternoon (almost early evening) on Friday, December 21. Now that I'm approximately 60 hours out I'm doing ok. Those first two nights in the hospital, however, I have to admit I kep thinking, "Oh God, what have I done?"

I do thave a curiosity question the Forum.... Did any of you experience a problem with your pupils being dilated after the surgery? There are no mirrors in the area of the hospital I stayed in, nor did I read or use my phone, so I wasn't sure there was a problem until I got home and looked in the mirror. I knew my eyes were feeling sensitive to the bright lights in the hospital when I was walking but just assumed that was my body rebelling.

Thoughts or advice?

Hi there, I haven't noticed a problem with dilation, but I have noticed since my surgery I can see better out of my right eye without my glasses. Weird huh?

Well, that does seem a little weird. But it's the best kind of problem to have, I think. :) I guess I'll figure out if my vision has improved once I can actually see again!

I went ahead and called the doctor about it. The on-call nurse told me this is normal and a result of the anesthesia. Depending on how quickly an individual metabolizes the anesthesia, it could even take 1-2 weeks to clear up. Yikes. The good news is I'm finally seeing an improvement just this afternoon.

Freaked me out. Couldn't read or even see my phone. I believe it was a patch they put behind my ear to help with nausea post op (didn't help either!!) took a good 3-4 days to see up close again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
