SylviaMom 83 Posted December 24, 2012 My doc recommended crushing pills for about 3weeks. I am not thrilled by this as it's nasty tasting and I suspect is less time released(i.e. impacts you faster/harder but effects wear off sooner). When did your docs allow you to pills without crushing? For those required to crush, any ideas on making it more effective and less horrible tasting? Thanks in advice for any data, logic, coping mechanisms you can provide.
ShanRN 58 Posted December 24, 2012 Make sure you aren't crushing extended release stuff. Most other meds should be okay. I find a spoonful of pudding, apple sauce, or yogurt works on my patients. Mary Poppins was right about the spoonful of sugar
phatdivabbw 86 Posted December 24, 2012 I hated crushing or dissolving pills. There was one pill I refused to take because it was horrible. Thank goodness I didn't need it. My BP went to normal a few weeks out. I crushed and dissolved for about a month then I was allowed to swallow anything no bigger than a plain M & M. 7 mths post-op and I swallow everything but still buy chewable vitamins because I like them.
