Holy Lactose Intolerance Batman!

I was sleeved 12/13, on mushy phase just now. So I am back visiting relatives for the holidays when they decided to go out for ice cream. (they don't know I had this type of surgery) In my previous life I had a deep, eart shattering love of ice cream. So I decided I'd have a few spoonfuls with the fam....that can't hurt!

Um yea....my body most assertively issued a "No ma'am" to me within 5 minutes of eating 4 spoonfuls.

I'm sorry new tummy, it won't happen again, yes I know your the new boss.

Sincerely,

Your Humble Servant Neekoal

It probably will. I'm guessing it may have been a reaction to the fat / richness than just the dairy.

See how you go further down the track.

I have this issue already but its only certain ice creams that give me problems. So I agree it may be the reaction of certain ones.

Good luck it may improve down the line

I feel your pain! Been there, u couldn't even eat a sliver if cheese without getting sick. However, I'm almost 10 wks out and although I can't tolerate ice cream or milk, I can tolerate most cheese in moderation. Good luck!

Well this isa type of syndrome which could be managed only by limiting the dairy products. You can go for plant based milk products if you want, like having soy milk, hazelnut milk etc. Foods like yoghurt would also be beneficial in your case. Just try to overcome the intolerance by consuming yoghurt. It would be good for your body.

Thanks

Thanks! I do seem to be able to eat yogurt without issue so that is good. I couldn't tolerate drinking milk so I did switch to soy yesterday for shakes. Someone told me the almond soy is better then the Soy brand , did you guys have some advice on which is better?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
