Will the dumping end in time?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved November 21, 2012. I have barely lost any weight 10 lbs at the most, however I was a low BMI'er. Im 5"1 and was 171# on date of sleeve. Im wondering if there is a time when Ill be able to eat what I want and not throw up and or slime or experience the dumping. It seems the only foods that dont make me dump are the foods that I shouldnt have.

I am 7 weeks out and tested the waters with most things .... I do not dump or slime. I have slimed a couple of times in the earlier weeks if I have eaten too fast but nothing major. I think it's all down to the individual but maybe dumping and sliming is good for keeping you on track!! Prob why bypass patients do so well to begin with!! It will get better though soon I sure :)

I thought that sleeves do not cause dumping? That is why my Dr. said he did not want to do b/p surgery just the sleeve.

Oh no....we dump. Just not to the extreme. Its not bad, my doctor told me thats what I was experiencing. Only do it however, when I decide to cheat.

At Dianne 38 did you have any medical history ??? I'm also 5'1 but I weight in at 237 before surgery ' date=' now I was also 170 one time in my life and all I needed to lose was 30 pounds witch I did and it took me 6 months, I gain weight after my daughter and also have hypothyroidism witch makes it a bit harder to lose weight and that's one of my reason why I decided to get sleeved.[/quote']

I had severe high blood pressure...my insurance appoved it same day on the first request. My profile pic was taken a week before I was sleeved. My blood pressure has never been so stable.

When I slime its 5 or 10 mins after I haven eaten. My mouth starts to fill with a clear but thick Fluid. When Im dumping Its nausea time ten. A heavy feeling under my chest with sharp pains. Stomach feels like its churning and I feel like if I can jusy burp it would possibly save my life. Last between 45 min to an hour. I usually go to sleep and feel really tired afterwards.

Just a few things to ask yourself:

Are you eating to fast? Are you chewing you food good enough? Not drinking with meals? Eating to much? Are you eating the proper food for the phase you are in?

These questions are just a start, keep yourself in check and hang in there. It won't last forever. Good luck to you!

At 10 months out I slime when I dont chew well, eat too fast or have eaten too much.this happens only when I stuff something in my mouth before I actually sit down to eat (while still preparing the food or dishing up..lol)

The dumping is a different thing altogether.I dump on sugar. It does not happen all the time but if my stomach is empty and I have even a bite of a chocolate, I get very sick.Nausea, shakes, runny tummy, really really sick.

I had one sip of Baileys about 3 weeks ago and boy I thought I would die. There was also no time lag between drinking the sip and the sick feeling,it happened instantly.

So,alcohol, creamy liqeurs actually, and any sugary thing like ice cream, chocolate ect is a definite no no in my life. The Lord surely blessed me with this as I often dont know my limits with these things...lol

Thanks for all this info. I am almost two weeks out but was given the heads up about dumping. Once I start my solids I will make sure to chew thoroughly and not drink until an hour after or half an hour before.

I dump with high quality ice cream, which isnt bad because I shouldnt be eating it anyway.

I occasionaly sliime and throw up, but it is always my fault that I ate to fast, or ate rice or bread, which still dont work for me. It is nothing like having the band. I slimed all the time and threw up at least 5/week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
