Hello all! I just joined after I spent the last hour reading through some of the posts and thought how great is this site!? I am scheduled to be "sleeved" on Feb 6th. My weight today is 220, and my surgeon Dr Majid is putting me on a 2 week pre op liquid diet.

I am wondering what have most of you told people about your decision for surgery? It is a personal decision, did you share it? I have told a few people - and think I have a great support system. Surprisingly a close friend was not so supportive, her response was you don't need that, you just need to eat better. Really?

I have been somewhat private with my choice to have surgery (I am still pre op) but I think after surgery it will be something I am much more open & forthcoming about.

There is another open thread about this right now that has gotten a little out of hand with people opinions about weather you should be 100% honest & open about it or not, so be prepared.

Welcome!!! I was just sleeved on the 18th and am fairly new to the site as well. I haven't told very many people because of some initial negative comments. I felt it was more important to keep myself positive. Do whatever you need to do to remain content with your decision. Just make sure to have at least one person who will back you up- a good support person. That will come in handy!

Yes I saw that thread! I think I will eventually tell people. Do you have a date set for your surgery?

I only told those very close to me about the surgery before I had it on 12/3/12. Its a personal decision to have the surgery, so I felt that it was a personal healthcare issue. My choice to tell those I wanted to. As it was a several months process before you have the surgery, I was losing a little weight and upping my exercise during that time. Someone not close to me commented on my weight loss the other day (at a hair salon) and she asked 'what's your secret' I said I have been working on it for several months, its a lifestyle change and making good decisions. All of which is the truth and I felt comfortable with that answer - so was she!

I too felt that if I got negative responses or even comments like, Oh you took the easy way out - it would impact me. AND we all know this isn't the easy way - it's a full commitment and a lot of work and planning.

So decide for yourself I would say, who you tell and who you don't. You wouldn't tell strangers or acquaintances necessarily about other surgeries you might have.

It's your journey, your decision. Good luck!!

Just wanted to share my experience but I respect each must make the decision to tell or not tell for themselves. I chose to tell very few people but when I ran into a complication with a five day hospital stay many folks came to know. Then I felt the smug relation from some that they found out something I didn't want them to know.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
