Carbs post op - contributing to stall?

Recommended Posts

I understand we are supposed to be eating high Protein and very low carb (<20 g per day). However, my program pushes us to drink milk by adding it to Protein Shakes, Soups, etc... The milk is putting me well over 20 g per day in carbs. Since I have been stalled for about 1 week, I am wondering if that could be the problem. I've also had some greek yogurts that contain the fruit mix and soups like Butternut Squash that are higher in carbs as well. My calories are still very very low because I can't eat much. But, I am wondering if this could be the problem?

It was for me! I didn't lose until I kept the carbs down to 20 and increased my Protein

I go over 19g of carbs most days, so for me it doesn't seem to impact my weight loss. You're actually coming up on the post surgery time that a lot of people stall for 2-3 weeks. Do a search for week 3 stall and you'll see what I'm talking about.

While you're stalling, don't feel that you're not losing. I can attest that even when my weight doesn't move I am still losing inches.

Didn't I already send you a link to this article? It sounds like the timing is right. You're probably right at it. Not all carbs are bad. Milk and fruits are good for you, as long as you are getting in your Protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
