Hey all,

I am 4 days post op...and was wondering how everyone is dealing with the pain? I am still experiencing sever pain on my right side where they took my stomach out. I am to the point of crying, and just wondering when it will ease up. I still have to take the pain meds that the dr prescribed. What is the normal time frame for when the pain eases up? I keep hearing a week from some friends that have done it, but I was wondering. Please help!

Christina

I'm 3 days out and the pain is minimal, I'm still taking the Lortab just to be on the safe side but it's definitely very manageable. What did they give you for pain? Are you taking it easy? You should feel better soon...it'll be worth it in the end!

You are getting close. Mine stopped about 4 days out. Just a little pulling after that. I am 3 weeks out and if I bend to pick up something or move in a fuuny way it will still hurt.

If your still in pain, then take the pain medicine every 6 hours...that's what they gave it to you for! You want to be in the least amount of pain possible so you can heal. I'm sure your almost out of the woods but until you feel better take the pain medicine religiously. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
