Hi all,

I am 3 weeks out, and I knew I would be a new sleever at Christmas. I got myself psychology prepared for not eating any holiday treats, and I am not having any problems with that, I could care less about food now. but what I am having trouble with is being home by myself because all of the holiday event revolve around big feasts. Both I and my friends are uncomfortable to have me around. This is something I didn't anticipate. Is there any clues from people that faced this kind of thing before.

Thanks

I had some parties to go to soon after I got my sleeve and I felt more comfortable, and I think others did too if I did this:- if it's a standing party I would put Water in a wine glass and just sip from this all evening. As long as you have something in your hand people don't seem to worry about you not eating. If it's a sit down meal, still have the wine glas and water, put a little bit if food on your plate and push it round a little. It's weird but it seemed to work.

All of the above.

I think that is one of the 'shifts' we have to make in our thinking. Social functions / gatherings, weather they're for Xmas or not, aren't about food - believe it or not (I know, I was shocked too ;):) )

They're about catching up and spending time with people. Focus more on the social part of the get together, not the consuming part.

You will find it liberating to go to an event and being able to focus on catching up with people. I know for me, previously at events like this I was constantly pre occupied with what I could eat. I didn't even realise how pre occupied I was with food until post sleeve.

Go with what AussieLady said. Enjoy family and friends this Xmas.

Good luck,

Deano

I went to my company x-mas party last night, and did not drink any alcohol while everyone else did. I found it very amusing to watch everyone else drink and make asses of themselve. Just have to find the humor in it all. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
