Few Days Out

Recommended Posts

So I'm only 4 days post op, so I'm just looking for some tips in the upcoming weeks.

I'm down a little bit of weight and that is going well, I'm just still recovering a bit.. I'm still on the Protein with Water and all that, so I haven't chewed anything in a while so it's getting old. How is the eating down the road? Any favorite recipes?

Is anyone back to lifting weights? I'm big into weights and am kinda discouraged that I can't lift for a few months. I feel like my muscles are just wasting away at this point.

Just looking for some different and thoughts.

Thanks

Hey Shamrock. Many of us went back to lifting weights as soon as the doc gave the okay. You know it will be tough at first, but the strength comes back. You will feel so much better without the extra body fat and once you start lifting you will look better and have less loose skin from the weight loss. When I started soft foods, I practically lived on scrambled eggs, finely ground chili, mustard egg salad and oatmeal. But even now at 7+ months out I still have Protein shakes almost every day. I've always liked them and since I'm always on the go they can be very convenient.

Best of luck.

If you miss the chewing...try some Sonic ice with Crystal Light for flavoring or lemon juice or try a Popsicle. Im 6 months out on Christmas day. I eat pretty much anything I want in moderation. I can't eat alot no matter what I get. I usually order the kids meal or $1 menu items and throw away the bread. I also get carry out chinese...usually costs about $2 for what I can eat . Egg drop Soup would be great for you right now. Its filling and tastes great ! Keep up the good job.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
