I still have two months before submit ten to insurance. I am so ready. How are you feeling? Any regrets so far?

Not yet. Was a bit more sore than I expected but by Friday was moving well and by yesterday you wouldn't know I had surgery. Took about two days to be able to get close to 64 oz intake. Not regretful, not depressed and most importantly not hungry. My only concern is a very low grade fever on and off mainly on since surgery. Talked to surgeon about it and Ist gonna see that it doesn't increase as I have no other symptoms that would point to anything wrong. Aside from that my son has the flu right so I may have that as well. I did have a flu shot but they are only 60% effective but if you do get it it severely lessens your symptoms.

I'm glad you are feeling pretty good and certainly hope you don't get the flu!!! Do you mind me asking your stats ( before weight, height, problems). We're you able to be approved thru insurance? I am 5'6 and 294 lbs. with a BMI of 47 and have sever case of sleep apnea. I am so ready to feel better.

I was approved through insurance. I am 6'1 and my highest weight was 329. I was around 315 preop. My BMI had not been over 40 for three years but it had been over 35. My wife had gastric bypass almost 2 years ago and has done great with hers. She really wanted the bypass over sleeve even if I disagreed. I hope my results are anywhere comparable to her as she has went from high of 270 to a trim 135.

Dr. Maliapur in Huntsville. He was absolutely amazing, as well as his staff. He is adamant about education, which is the key to success. He has a zero fatality rate and has had one leak. Love him!

Good for her, I know she is excited. I would love to reach my goal of 150. I would just beside myself. My husband support my decision for sleeve but was totally against the bypass. I am a little concerned because Dr. Mora will be starting the sleeve in Jan. he has though been doing the bypass and lap band since early 1990's.

@Sadler' date='-I was A LOT heavier out of the hospital. I'm down quite a bit from leaving and losing all of the IV weight and all of my clothes still fit roughly the same so I'm sure you are doing better than you think! Keep up the exercising and it'll come off fast!

Have you tried moving to a 1% milk as a buffer before skim to ease into it?

Now that it's been a week I've been having more energy and have gotten an appetite again which is nice. Today was the fist day where I thought "Man I ate a lot today" and it was really just milk, Protein and Soup. It's amazing that now even two weeks before the surgery I felt like I could hork down a whole pizza and still feel like I could eat a bit more for dinner.[/quote']

When you say exercise, you mean regular walking? My doctor said no elliptical for 2 weeks and no weights until end of January. Just wondering what you were told.

I never saw Dr Foreman, sure he's great too but I knew I didn't like his partner, Facundus. I'm a nurse and I've taken care of many Facundus patients, not good. I'm sure he has plenty of good cases too but for me, I just knew I've never had to take care of Mailapur or Foreman patients, lol.

I hear he is great. I just chose Foreman as my wife had used his partner and I have many friends that had used him and also friends that work at Crestwood one being a surgical nurse. She raved about him and his thoroughness in the OR. But I wouldn't have blinked to let dr maliapur do my surgery either. Familiarity helps to comfort me though.

Oh, your wife used Facundus? I'm assuming she was not ever one of my patients :) Like I said, I'm sure he has a ton of success stories, being a nurse, I only see the failures unfortunately.

I actually liked Facundus but most thought he was boisterous. My wife did very well with him so I will refrain from any negativity as his artwork is still inside her abdomen. I didn't have quite the stats you had going into it except the number of procedures Foreman has done. He had done over 1500 bypass and around 150 sleeves so far. He told me when I asked that he was actually more comfortable doing the sleeve. He said he after only a couple he was very satisfied and comfortable how they turned out. I think you dr has somewhere around the same number of procedures done from what I found online.

You being a nurse what would your assessment of my low grade fever be. Keep in mind i had the same 98.9-99.7 fever in the room at the hospital and i have always been one to pop a fever for any little thing. Also does dr maliapur do the barium leak test before you leave or just the OR test. Foreman only did the OR one on me and then of course bloodwork before leaving hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
