How to track fluid, containers for, too much fluid at once a problem?

Recommended Posts

HI,

I was a huge Fluid drinker before surgery because of dry mouth issues. Right after surgery (12-6), it was a struggle to get liquids down and I was miserable. But after a few days, I got the hang of it. Now I am sipping away.

But I need a better system to keep track of my fluids. Currently I have a measuring cup and I pour it into a glass and sip from that. My NUT told me that one way to keep from gulping fluids was to have a container with a large mouth. She said that the larger the mouth, the less likely you were to gulp and get air in your stomach.

I have lots of sports bottles and some even have an opening about the size of a nickel instead of the pivot straw type. But what do you drink out of to keep track of what you taking in and to sip and not gulp, chug your fluid. Also is it an issue to take in too much fluid at one time ( not with a meal)? I had a hernia repair with my surgery. I didn't even know I had it and I don't want to get another one. I asked how to avoid that and they said not to overeat but does that go with drinking too much at once?

I drink out of blender bottles without the little blender ball in it. I am 9 weeks out and still can only drink liquids that are very cold so I am able to add ice and still measure from the side of the bottle as the opening does help me to take in less air amd not gulp. While most of the time I am able to drink out of most things now includng straws I find these bottles the best all around plus they travel well too

I measure a cup in a glass and when that is gone I do another. I put little stick figures on a piece of paper where I keep track of my calories and Protein.< /p>

I use the same glass every day (wash it of course). I know how much it holds, and use it all day. I track what I eat and drink on myfitnesspal. So far no issues.

I have a couple of 16 oz thermal cups with lids and the opening is a great size. I use those and track on myfitnesspal on my phone as I finish the 16 oz. I also have a similar cup that is 24 oz and I use that when I am out running errands, so I don't run out of liquid. I bought them at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I drink from a blender cup that has the ounces on the side of the bottle. One thing that I do because I can't stand tiny sips is I will take a big swig then slowly swallow it lol

What about a 32oz water bottle. I usually have one of those as my Water intake and then whatever else I drink for the day (protein shakes, tea etc) usually about even

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
