Plastics less than a year out?

Recommended Posts

I have my consultation today with a plastic surgeon. I am just over 6 months out from surgery but I don't plan to get my surgery until March. I am currently 12 lbs below goal & I plan on getting off another 20 by march. I've seen a lot of people saying surgeons sayin to wait until 1-2 years out for skin to "shrink", however, there is no way I'm waiting that long!! Anybody have experience with plastics this early out??

I didn't but I can say my skin looks drastically different now than it did 1 year ago and I weigh 10 pounds less than last year.

I have experienced weight loss in the past and then went for plastic surgery before a year was out. I believe once your skin has stretched out and is lax/flabby it will not "improve" a year out so why wait. I am in the same boat now as you: I have 17 more pounds to lose and would like my surgery late spring. I am going to see a plastic surgeon next week. I think it is the best decision, we will be looking fantastic come summer!! I say go for it!!

One other thing, I don't believe that surgeons say to wait for your skin to "shrink". For weight loss patients I think they say for your weight to stabilize.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
