I'm looking at getting the band in December. What is the pre-op diet? I know each doctor is different so everyone's will be different. I haven't recieved this information from my doctor yet. BTW - Dr. Spiegel - Houston Texas.

Thanks for the info.

When do you think he will provide that information to you because I am having the lapband on Dec. 11, and I have not been given diet instructions but no eating after 12am on Dec. 10.

I'm scheduled in a few weeks, and he just said to not eat like its the Last Supper and eat and say goodbye to all my favorite foods. He said not to gain weight...... I asked him about it and he said he doesn't have a pre-op liquid diet or anything.

I did not have to follow a pre-op diet. I ate whatever I wanted up until the evening before my surgery, and loved every minute of it *grin*. However, all Dr's. are different. My Dr. is very strict now (post-op); I must stay on Clear Liquids for 30 days (actually it works out to 40 - my first fill isn't until Nov. 23rd).

You just have to keep telling yourself that "this is not forever". Eventually, you

will be able to eat near everything you want (my understanding), but in smaller amounts, which allow you to lose the weight.

Cheers.

Kat.

Why do any of it? Is it to reduce the fat around your tummy too, so your band won't loosen up so fast as you lose weight. I'm just trying to figure out why I'm not supposed to do anything pre-op......

I was told that the liquid pre-op diet was to shrink the liver back away from the stomach as well as reducing the fat from around the stomach.

Clear liquids for 30 days? Or full liquids like Protein shakes, Soups, ect?

I think it would be really hard to get 60 gm/day of Protein in on clear liquids. Congratulations on your surgery.

:hungry: My daughter and I are scheduled for Nov 17 ('06) with no pre-op diet instructions from the dr. I have however put both of us on a no fat/no sugar pre-op diet. I believe its extremely smart to do, 1) the no fat is for the liver and 2) the no sugar is so I, (we) don't have the horrid sugar withdrawals post-surgury. I would much rather experience the nauseous headache faint feelings of sugar withdrawal now then post-op. (especially on a 1500 mile plane ride home)

I have been on liquids for two days now. YIKES, I am having terrible headaches but I know it will be worth it! I have surgery tomorrow @ 10:00AM AND then I go to clear liquids for 4 days, then mush for the next 3/4 days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
