Acid reflux? What is it?

Recommended Posts

I had my endoscope today... No pain, a little sore throat now, not very major.

But my paper work says I have acid reflux and diverticulum something that starts with the letter P.

I'm sorry I don't have the paper work in front of me..

Also once I got home I took a nap and woke up choking it felt like burning throw up in my throat but not into my mouth.. A very wierd filling I had no idea if I should try to cough it up or wash it down with Water...

Is that acid reflux? Or was that just normal after endoscope? It scared me I thought I was going to throw up

Thanks for any info..

It definately was exagerated by the endosope, but that is what acid reflux is. If you are pre op they do this to make sure you have no ulcers that could affect your surgery. I had a lap band for just a little over a year and experienced it more, but now with my sleeve I do not have it very often at all. My bariatric team had me previcid for the first six months after surgery. Hope this helps.

Acid Reflux is when the flapper at the top of your stomach lets excess stomach acid out into your esophagus. It does cause the burning feeling you spoke of, it tends to be worse when you lay flat. It is usually treated with nexium or Prilosec which are meds that lessen the churning of the acid.

Is it possible that endoscope did damage? I never had reflux pain or issue before... Now I'm afraid to sleep. I have never experienced anything like this. This is uncomfortable and right now I can't even fall asleep...

I never had this before untill today

take prevacid or prilosec, you can buy both of them over th counter....dont eat for two hours before bedtime, if you feel like you have to throw up just go ahead and get it over with; it gets rid of the extra acid and resolves the problem for the time being

It is possible that the endoscope loosened the valve. If this is the problem it will probably get better over the next couple days. Over the counter prilosec is available at any drug store or Walmart.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
