How many fills to feel restriction?

Recommended Posts

Hi-

I'm due for my second fill tomorrow. I am 6 weeks post surgery. I have lost about 20 pounds but feel like I could eat the house now. I dont even have to chew and have absolutely no restriction. I had 1cc. put in last Friday. I called today and they said come in tomorrow for more. How long does it take for some restriction to start developing. I am assuming I will get another cc tomorrow so my total will be 2cc's. My dr. said I have a size 10 band, whatever that means! I'm ready to be less hungry and see if this band works.:help:

I had a similar experience. I have a 10 cm band. My first fill they gave me 3cc. I was still very hungry. The second fill they gave me 2cc so I was up to 5cc. I still didn't feel a lot of restriction but if I ate too fast, I would throw-up. Still hungry I went for the 3rd fill. They gave me 1cc bringing the total to 6cc. So far so good. Well, good luck to you. I was told that it takes at least 3 tries to find the "sweet spot".

I truly had my doubts as well as to whether the band was ever going to work. I have an 11cc band and it seems like now whenever I have had my last 2 fills each time it stayed a little longer than the last. I am hoping for the day that it will stay the way it does when I'm not hungry, and just losing the weight like I'm suppose too. I feel like right before the next fill I start getting very hungry and start to gain weight yet again!

It takes 3-5 fills to get proper restriction. I've seen patients who have no restriction at all until the 5th fill. Everybody is differen!!

Good luck,

Yes everyone is very different!

I have a 4cc capacity and after 1 fill am quite restricted. I have no idea how much the fill was though. I asked, but the patient advocate told me the "cc number" wasn't important since everyone reacts differently to a fill.

I didn't press the question since I had the fill done under fleuro and was able to see that the stoma opening was about the size of a drinking straw.

VG = Vanguard, to my knowledge it's the same in France or US.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
