How many fills to feel restriction?

Recommended Posts

Hi-

I'm due for my second fill tomorrow. I am 6 weeks post surgery. I have lost about 20 pounds but feel like I could eat the house now. I dont even have to chew and have absolutely no restriction. I had 1cc. put in last Friday. I called today and they said come in tomorrow for more. How long does it take for some restriction to start developing. I am assuming I will get another cc tomorrow so my total will be 2cc's. My dr. said I have a size 10 band, whatever that means! I'm ready to be less hungry and see if this band works.:help:

Hula

I have a 9.75cm 4cc band. I didnt get much restriction until I was at 1.7 ccs. There is no magic number, it really varies. I was at 1.5 soon after banding and it was too much, a few weeks later I was ready for another fill. It is very individual.

Everyone Is Different! There is no way to predict how much Fluid will result in restriction for any given person or how many fills it will take to get there. Comparisons get us absolutely nowhere.

Rant over. :biggrin1:

i put my fill experiences in my signature not so that people can compare their level to mine, but just so that people know that you can have restriction from day one or some people may have to get to the higher numbers. i didn't feel anything until 3.4ccs. but it's like obscenity, you know it when you -feel- it. lol

I had a fill the other day and I am finding that I am @ 6.5 w/and 11cc Vanguard. I can not eat and even having trouble drinking without a considerable amound of pain, I wonder if this will go away in time or I should give it a few days and have an unfill?

I have a 10 VG.....my first fill was 3.6, second was the same. That was in August and I'm just now beginning to feel the need of a fill again. BTW....you don't get to one spot and stay there forever....as you lose weight, you will need to go back and have the band tightened a little more

------

Unless you had your band inserted in Europe, you don't have a Vanguard; they are not used in the U.S. You may have a VG, but VG doesn't stand for Vanguard. And, yes.....it's confusing. Confusing but true. Some surgeons even get confused, I hear. ;)

I have 1 cc in a 4 cc band. My doctor refuses to give me a fill before 6 weeks and that means I won't be able to get another fill until after Thanksgiving. I am at a standstill with my weight and can still eat alot. My doctor also told me that once I get to 3 cc, he will not fill me. Has anyone else had this experience? My doctor keeps telling me it's not a miracle cure, just a tool. I understand that, but I am becoming really frustrated with the long wait in between fills.

You know that is odd because that is what my surgeon has been calling it even before I was banded. It's even in the literature he gave me on the band and surgery. I will have to call and see if he knows what he's talking about, boy I hope so. He was one of the first doctors to bring it to Colorado.

Anyway I still can't eat much of anything and last nite it seemed to open up. Wouldn't you know it would open at night! The worse time to eat possible.:faint:

I am in the same boat as you. Very frusrated at the long wait in between fills.

My band holds 4cc

First fill was 1.25

Second fill was .5

third fill was .5

still have no restriction. My doc makes all his patients wait 6 weeks between fills restriction or not. I'm a self pay and am really starting to regret my decision. I am still white knuckle dieting. I go in for yet another fill dec. 11th. I hope I am just bieng an impatient baby.

Depends on your Doctor and how agressive he is with fills. Some US docs are less agressive then the MX docs and it also depends on each individual. What may give me restirction, may not give you restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
