protein drinks and amt of wt lost

Recommended Posts

For those of you that have lost a significant amount of weight, do/did you drink Protein Shakes like adkins Protein Drinks (especially for breakfast)? Did you feel that Protein drinks slowed your weight loss at all? When I did Atkins several years ago, many people then said that the protein drinks hendered their weight loss......but that is all I can get down b4 lunch and I am not doing Atkins with the band ...just trying to make healthy choices....Just curious...

Hi Bandedshopgirl

I Had The Band Put In On October 5th, I Lost 26lbs In Nine Days, Since Then My scale At Home Has Stayed The Same. I Have Been Drinking 2-3 Protein Shakes Per Day.(gnc100%protein). I Am Curtious Too, Can This Be Slowing Weight Loss Process?

I got my band in April, but did not get restriction and start losing weight until after I was filled at the end of June. Since then, I have lost almost 40 pounds. I drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast every morning as it is all I can get down as well. It has not hindered my progress at all.

Nup. I dont like them and I dont find them necessary, I eat a smaller version of the healthy breakfasts I always ate - Cereal, fruit and yogurt usually. Maybe an egg on toast. Very occasionally just a piece of toast.

liquid calories dont fill me up anyway. I'd be looking for something else to eat an hour or two later and I dont believe in Protein at the expense of carbs either.

I start my day with a supa Protein mix I made up lol. I take an Atkin's chocolate royal shake pre-mixed kind 11 oz. and add one scoop of chocolate Unjury protien powder. It ends up being supa rich, kinda thick, chocolatey goo lol. I love it! I get 35 grams of protein in it. I really like it and I don't get hungry until about 1 o'clock. I usually have a south beach diet Protein Bar for lunch or a WW microwave meal or left overs from supper or tuna/mayo and avocado on kashi crackers. Those are kind of my staples for lunch quisine lol. Then for supper I have whatever I want, even pizza sometimes. I eat SLOW and chew well and stop when I get my stop sign. It took a while to figure out but now I know when I've had enough. Every day I get my 65g of protein in no problemo. I also take my Vitamins and drink my Water and am pretty religious about my biotin.. don't want to lose my hair if I can help it!! Ive been steadily losing. I also try to exercise daily.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
