6month requirement. Gaining more than losing.

Recommended Posts

So I'm almost done with my 6month weight watch requirement. I only have two more visits left and then I will be able to be scheduled for surgery. I was just wondering if anyone who had to do the 6months had a problem with having gained weight and being approved? I've gained 7 pounds in 4 months and I'm afraid my insurance is going to deny me if I don't lose the gained weight or gain even more. My BMI is 41 and I was told by my nutritionist that I should watch losing too much weight so my BMI doesn't dip too low. But what if I do t stop gaining? I'm eating right. It's just Portion Control that I'm having trouble with. But the surgery is going to basically control that. So yeah lol

If i were youI would try to stick to the diet the best you can and try to be down a little when they submit you to insurance. they are looking to see if you can make the changes necessary to be successful with the surgery. I just finished mine and struggled with losing weight but in the end I lost 12 pounds and got approved. Take it one day at a time. this is a hard time of the year to be so restrictive and I keep thinking if I could do this on my own I wouldn't need surgery. but they want to know it will be good investment topay for the surgery.

I lost 5 lbs from the time I started my appointments until I met with the surgeon (aproximately 3.5 months). They were happy with that.

Don't worry about losing too much, just try really hard not to gain. I know it's difficult, believe me...I struggled BIG TIME!

You can do this!

I just finished and should have a surgery date within a few days. I struggled with the weight loss as well. I actually gained weight too but they told me as long as I show a loss I will be ok. About 4 months in, I had gained 6 lbs and I cut out carbs and reduced my calories to 1300/ day and managed to bring my weight down to 3 lbs below my starting weight. It was not the 15 lbs they wanted me to lose but they accepted it.

Ughhh rrrrr I'm in the 6 month program, I have 3 more to go. I lost 6 pounds, next I gain 3 pounds & feel heavier this month. Need to loose @ least 3-4 pounds for January. It's hard I'm only 40.5 BMI in order for insurance to approved I have to be 40 or more on BMI. No medical problems but I had the lap band for 7 yrs. Hope insurance approves me.

A little tough love but im going to give it to you straight. You are playing with fire, and likely are putting yourself at great risk to be denied.

If you are not doing well on their diet switch to a preop liquid/protein style of diet and stick to it like your life depends on it.

Losing too much is one thing but gaining is almost certain denial.

With my insurance I was told that they go by your beginning weight and BMI so if you lose a lot before surgery you will still qualify for surgery. I had to do the 6 month diet and each month for 2 wks. I would drink Protein Shakes. My last weigh in is Jan. 16 and I have lost 22 lbs. Start drinking those shakes!

I had a 3 month supervised diet, and never lost a pound. I actually gained 4 pounds. I was denied at first for a different reason, but then approved. Insurance didn't say anything about the gain.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
