2013isit 19 Posted December 19, 2012 Hello. I am pre-op and have been reading a lot about post-op nausea. It reminds me of the severe morning sickness I had in pregnancy. I used to sip non-diet coke which stopped the morning sickness. This is obviously a no-no after surgery, and post-op nausea is different than morning sickness of course. I am wondering if any post-op'ers use juice to stop the nausea. Has it worked for anyone? I hate being nauseated and am predicting juice might help for me if I have this problem. I would think this would only be smart for the first few weeks in trying to stay hydrated. After that, it is too carb-y to keep on the menu. Shan
jen1211 203 Posted December 19, 2012 juice is a no no right after surgery, it's way too sugary. Everything on my diets is low sugar/sugar free. I also wasn't able to drink anything at all the day of surgery but that depends on the physician.
iggychic 1,405 Posted December 19, 2012 Too much sugar hun. It will make you much worse. That said, peppermint tea, sweetened with sugar free or plain, is very good for nausea. I drank a lot of it post surgery and in the hospital after both of them.
ozeedonkee 145 Posted December 19, 2012 A few weeks out, if there were times i felt I just couldn't stomach food (usually breakfast) I started making my own juice: spinach, cucumber, celery, carrot, ginger and green apple. It's delicious. But immediately after, peppermint tea was good.
katsmeow 70 Posted December 19, 2012 I sipped on some apple juice I think on the second week. It served its purpose to have hydration and nutrients. I'm in my fifth week I haven't had any since. I had like a 12 ounce bottle over the course of the day.
lessofmeismore 1,405 Posted December 19, 2012 I drank juice, sometimes diluted but mostly straight ... I didn't have any problems with real fruit juices...you have to drink what you can Best of luck!!!
TheGamer 406 Posted December 19, 2012 I had such a hard time with nausea that I was given a prescription anti nausea medication.
ebthompson2010 126 Posted December 19, 2012 I drank 1/2 cup of Water mixed with 1/2 cup of white grape juice WITH SUGAR and it helped me nausea. And is also helping with nausea now that I am 3 mos pregnant and have all day morning sickness .
iggychic 1,405 Posted December 19, 2012 Both of my surgeons prescribe anti nausea meds after the surgery. Vomiting is very hard on your new sleeve and can cause leaks early out.
